Re: Restructuring Paxil

    What have we got here?

I was doing some research on SSRIs  in particular this one very popular  Snake Oil  aka  SSRI by the name of  'Paxil' , or  "paroxetine"

  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paroxetine         Evil fuckin stuff!     but . . .

During this research, I came across a diagram of the drug and I saw it from a new pov!  ??? :o

Look at the kekule diagram,  see something familiar?
                          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paroxetine

Now, would it be possible to cleave the piperidine and md rings, I guess somewhere on that carbon chain, and then seperate and recover MD compound ?  ???

just an idea, unfortunately fresh's chemistry is only up to proposing these ideas to the smarter chemists here who may be able to figure something out.

I'd just like to hear one of the smarter wasps explain the possibilities...if 'yes it's possible', then' how might it be done', and if 'no it's not possible',      I'd love the reasons 'why not' to be explained.

Paxil is the fifth most Rx'd drug in the US...it fixes every type of anxiety and depression, and a few other things too.  :o

I think GSK are trying to get it recognised for treating cancer, and possibly heart disease!  Shit! if they can they might as well!!! ::)

Many GPs are far too ready to Rx this drug due to their mistaken beliefs about this drug, especially that it's not 'habit forming'

Consequently it's pretty easy to get, and to get a regular supply, of say 30-40mg/pd  3 months at a time. ;)

Shit we'd be doing the world a HUGE favor if you could find a SnB way ;D

crazy thinking I know but it's a fresh look ::) ;)

lol!    If this 'worked'   it  could take tweaking to a whole new level.. ;D

btw here are some of f1's 'thoughts' on paroxetin . . . evil fuckin drug >:(  this 'counterpoint' needed a separate post...apologies :))

Paxil (and other SSRIs) have also been known to cure previously 'undicovered' disorders . . .yes incredible but  'true' (say GlaskoSmithKline)

i.e. have you experienced two or more of these 'symptoms' listed below?

-feelings of intense tension or anxiety
-difficulty concentrating
-insomnia or hypersomnia!
- increased intense sensitivity to rejection or criticism
-increased need for emotional closeness
-feeling overwhelmed or feelings of being out of control
-increase or decrease in sex drive!

then there Is a Good Chance you 'may be suffering' from  "premenstrual dysphoric disorder" (of course you knew that anyway right?! natch!)
You should consult your GP immediately and tell him/her you've got "premenstrual dysphoric disorder" and that you heard from your friend who's also got "premenstrual dysphoric disorder",  that that Paxil stuff works really well . . . :o

btw    fresh considers this drug, and all the other  SSN/RIs to be evil, dangerous and insidious compounds with numerous unpleasant side effects, but worst of all they're incredibly difficult to stop after taking them regularly, with mild withdrawals happening after using them for more than a few weeks getting progressively worse the longer you take them!

There are thousands of peeps in dozens of online forums dedicated to "Paxil Withdrawals",  saying that
"If only my Dr had told me this would happen, I never would have started taking this drug to begin with!"
There are stories of people who have been trying to stop for over 8 years!!!
They get down to 50mgs or so and just cant get any lower without suffering bad wd symptoms!

Apparently the only way to stop is to go on to an SSRI with a much longer half life, like Prozac, and taper off that, over months/years :o :P

ime having an 'out of whack' seretonin system is most unpleasant, to say the least! and hangin out from SSRI type drugs is worse than hanging out from opiates by far!

IMO these drugs are best left alone, and IF you do take them, try to restrict it to no more than a few weeks at a time, and expect to notice stopping >:(
