BitWasp - Open Source Anonymous Bitcoin Marketplace For Tor/I2P
« on: September 10, 2012, 10:49:25 PM »
https://github.com/Bit-Wasp/BitWasp?

This is still under-construction, but is close to being functional.

BitWasp is an open source project which aims to lower the barrier of entry for anyone to set up there own secure, anonymous marketplace. It is envisaged that BitWasp will be used on Tor hidden services. As such it is designed with speed in mind. This project will also eventually fully integrate with BitCoin providing a secure escrow service for buyers and sellers. This project is still in its very early stages.

If you can help or have any ideas please join us on http://www.thelaboratory.org/

"We're about to begin the bitcoin system; implementations will require setting up their own bitcoin server to handle transactions. I'd love to hear any suggestions that would help make full use of tor/bitcoin/crypto in making this.
One idea we're considering is automated washing of bitcoins for peace of mind. There are potential issues with this, but it's up for consideration. Would there be any other features you would suggest we use?

Something else we're including are clientside PGP encryption of messages, should users chose to use javascript, it's going to be designed with security and anonymity in mind.
I'd love to hear from you!"

Would you be interested in getting some exposure for this, if so, creating a completely disconnected domain would be needed ( so as to not linkup this wonderful home with SilkRoad, because a direct link might cause issues )
I could take over from there on getting the right people involved.

Feel free to share it with people to get them involved, you can just copy and paste this post to whoever and whatever.
it isn't finished yet though, but we need some help anyway.
It is difficult to do some stuff, like integrate BTC.

Yeah, eventually I'll probably get a URL/domain like bitwasp.org or BWasp, or whatever and host the software and a modification/ add on place. Or try to get someone else to do it.

But eh not till later on.

I think this will be a very interesting project to see where it goes and what all happens with it.

Yeah, I am proud of that little image. :)

It needs to be modified with magic and photoshop to look better though. I would not mind for it being somewhat iconic of this project. I feel it says a lot about it.

Have you installed the software on a web server and performed "Penetration tests" on the BitWasp software, AND/OR the web server hosting the BitWasp software?

Not yet.
The Bitwasp stuff isn't even finished so we're still developing that.

The server security stuff will have to be done by other people who actually intend to run it - since I suspect each case will be different.

Once the marketplace software is finished. we'll have people look at the code, run tests and try to find and fix any security issues.

Yeah so does anyone here want to help this project? Perhaps someone familiar with either known or suspected issues with silkroad, has worked with bitcoin, or knows PHP/other programming languages? Or other stuff?

That wasn't me who posted it. But yes it is very exciting!
I am very happy to see that the AmpedMarket is being created as well.

I am sure that BitWasp and AmpedMarket will do a lot of good for most everyone. At first it will undoubtedly help the Tor, and the Bitcoin community by increasing awareness and usage of both. This is good because those are useful tools to citizens living under a corrupt government.

And of course all of this will cause a variety of other things to happen. All sorts of things will be sold using Tor, Bitcoin, and this software being developed. The obvious is what silkroad and the Armory (??) sell - but I suspect that many other things, such as patent infringing tech items (rectangles with rounded corners), and various files like science journals, music, books, and any other form of information at a very low price for obvious reasons.

Additionally services - hosting for example could be purchased with increased safety for buyers.

All of that will greatly increase awareness and usage of the required systems and allow for emerging niche markets. I suspect that as time goes on almost every hobby will have its I2P/TOR counter part that many of the hobbyists use.

Once these marketplaces are finished, I hope to be able encourage someone with the skill and expertise to write exceptionally simple instructions on how to securely setup anonymous Tor, and I2P servers for .onion and eepsites.

"rectangles with rounded corners"
Haha, thats a good laugh.

I've set up an onion site before, but the difficulty is finding good hosting. Many hosts won't specifically allow TOR nodes unless you pay for dedicated servers, or pay other option fees, makes it hard for those of us without good net connections. If someone found a seedboxed webhost that had a very agreeable TOS, they likely wouldn't have any issue doing that sort of thing.

Such things would need to be hosted yourself I think instead of on hosting companies with a tos.  but undoubtedly on tor, you could buy some hosting with bitcoin that would be good and allow for Php/mysql stuff. . I think it would just be good to explain and encourage people to create their own server if they have decent internet. I suspect not the best internet is needed wouldn't tor most often be the bottle neck since it has to be routed through several computers anyway?
