Hi there!
Since someone would like to synth a larger amount of p2np via the henry reaction
he came to the idea to just use a pipe bomb instead of the usual reflux apparatus.
Materials used will be freshly destilled benzaldehyde, nitroethane and n-butylamine.
The choice of solvent is not sure yet. Probably ipa or xylene, as it is commonly used.
The question is:
What would be the ideal temperature/time for this?
Given the fact that there will be quite of an amount of pressure in the stainless steel bomb, the temperature should not be too
high. Using xylene, swim would use 100°C and 5hrs for reaction.
Also, some sources say that byproduct generation is linked to light exposure during rxn, this would be totally avoided :-)
