Maybe it has to do with pill extraction techniques in a coffee maker and subsequent reduction in said coffee maker as well.
similar process as the making of ghetto coffee aka cowboycoffee.

.... random guess....

I am not in the know either. Does not seem to be useful knowledge at any rate.
