It's not exactly new as the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction has been reporting on it, but it's new to me. It looks like some of the big European bee's have been importing dozens of tonnes of alpha-phenylacetoacetonitrile into the EU and converting it to P2P. APAAN is converted to P2P in one step by heating in an acidic aqueous solution as outline on the Rhodium Archive (https://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/p2p.phenylacetoacetonitrile.html). APAAN is not currently under formal international control but it is obviously known and watched.
That's a nice precursor those guys had going and they were really exploiting it to the full. The EMCDDA paper is available at

Hydratropic Aldehyde is sold by most fragrance companies and seems like an easier route to me at least.

And is known as a precursor, at least one member of a site I know is down because of lack of caution. It was an option once, now it is simply too hot. There are two and three step processes available, some even avoid ever touching benzaldehyde or phenylacetic acid, but to find them you'll need to read.

Why exactly would you like people to make potentially incriminating comments on routes to illegal precursors? From what I can see what you have added to the discussion is somewhere between nothing and fuck all, spoon-feeding trolls is not a favorite occupation
