The site is under a denial of service attack and has been since before the start of September. We have a short list of suspects, but were still trying to confirm suspicions at my last contact with admins dealing with the problem.

It appears the site is being Jammed.

I do not know, I merely report the impressions of those who know more about it than I do, and they are not yet certain of the source.

Quite possibly the efforts of the US government using illegal methods of warfare.

Its not uncommon for the FBI, NSA, or DEA, to hire 'Ethical' hackers to attack certain sites, hack certain computers, recover certain data from certain non guilty criminals, to prove their guilty-ness...

but I wouldn't know about any of this.

My suggestion, don't deal with that, simply refute the attack (DOS are easy to defend against, even in large numbers...from my understanding) and when sending the refuted attack, hide in a sniffer packet to get their addresses, go from there.

I have wisely elected to remain uninvolved in the ongoing technical difficulty, being a fish out of water in such areas by choice rather than circumstance. I have a seventy two hour fuse on working on computer problems. If the problem persists after seventy two hours, my preferred method of solving the problem involves a fire axe. This is why I refrain from attempting to solve such problems for others.

I've solved a few problems in such a fashion permanently, after purchasing new equipment. Amazing how the venting of such frustration can result in an emotional release. Who knew destruction could be so fulfilling?

As a follow up I would advise that the person behind the DOS attack has admitted he is/was behind the attack, law enforcement is not involved nor was it ever thought that the source of the DOS attack was LE.

The site will be down tonight for some repairs and fixes, and hopefully will be back up and running at speed again by tomorrow.
