New Theme!
« on: October 01, 2009, 08:43:00 PM »
I made this the new theme because it gives the option to Show unread posts since last visit and
Show new replies to your posts.

I think it also looks pretty nice, and hopefully it will be more effective.
if you have any problems with it please let me know.

In order to get the old theme back you can go to your profile, click look and layout preferences, and then click change when you see Current Theme: Babylon Theme (change)
The old one was
Classic YaBB SE Theme

Thanks, I hope these 2 new features make the forum easier to view and overall better.

Looks good.

I was really confused for second, I refreshed the index and it looked totally different.

Yeah  ;D

I was thinking it would confuse a lot of people at first! Ha.. probably will confuse everyone for a bit since things might be slightly different, but I don't think there will be any new problems - but if there is please let me know

While you're at it, could we please have some extra subdivisions in the chemistry part? Dunno what else, but we do need a novel/new ideas area...

Could you please elaborate more on this?
I'm interested and willing but I'm not sure what it is you are asking for exactly, and not quite sure why it is needed?

Also I'd like to hear what other members think about it so feel to speak up if you would also like, or would prefer not to have this section. :D

In the theme selection area of the profile there is an entry labeled "smf_1-1-8_install".

Yeah, I don't know what that is all about, but I don't think it is a problem. Probably just a byproduct of something I was screwing around with at some point.

Yes I agree wholehearteldy, and I can gaurantee, ALL members would be in agreement in the discussion, proposals of novel preperations, and uses of many molecules.
Its just seperating what is known, from what is considered NOVEL, and of course to who...Probably that doesn't make sense, but it is in the line of, Could a thread itself just contain the wording of say.. Novel preperation, or novel use of Benzylchloride - as an example, rather than a seperate area for novel reactions.etc..I dont know, just thrashing this around abit.
I also very much like how a number of the members, have started their own experimentation threads...so in light of that, perhaps a novel section would be good.
I also  have often thought- say a thread for an example, of preperaing ethylbenzene, by numerous methods, but the thread more so being about, WELL we have this done, what can we do with it...What potential has ethylbenzene, and anything known presented, but more importantly anything that is novel - being proposed, perhaps challenged, perhaps worthy of a trial- and not just based on literature finds.  As a forum, we could really push our understanding of chem, and doing it that way, would help others/myself learn more chem, and push the barriers around somewhat.. and do so, without the pressure one would feel if one proposed a schematic to ones peers of highly qualified chemists..I believe good ideas often come, when one is relaxed, and not afraid to say the ridiculous, and just thrashing things around...I think this forum is the place to accomodate this sort of brain storming, with respect to chemistry, and furthermore, we have some very talented members here, theirfore able to give sound and reliable feedback to novel use of chem.
I dont know what I am saying here has much bearing on the forum, the recent design changes and perhaps it is just pointing out, reminding myself and others, that things here are PRETTY FUCKING good...
I am obviously in agreement to somehow emphaising NOVEL chem as a whole, but not sure how this could be done, or whether, just as I have stated be part of the title of a thread concerning something novel....
