GHB--poorly thought out questions.
« on: November 13, 2009, 05:51:51 PM »
Ok after having a date with a miss sandmeyer I have a few questions to ask yall about her.

First off I hear much talk about neutralizing the post reaction mix prior to distilling the GBL(is it really GBL or just free acid GHB?). This does not make much sence to me because wouldn't that turn the GHB into Na-GHB and not allow it to distill over?

Chesire made mention before that discarding the forrun to remove any nitros acid left over is a good idea and that will make it nitros free as you steam distill the product.... However the more I distilled it the more acidic it got and soon it was to the point where it would eat concrete floor I placed a drop on.

I took the distillate and basifyed a small aliquat of it and it turned from crystal clear to a deep yellow mixture and still had a small smell of funk is the best way to put it. Why did it turn yellow and is my product still there unsalted at this point. I have a million questions right now I have to go because Im hungry. GHB makes me eat like I smoked a fucking joint and shit.

Have you attempted just using Dichloromethane to extract the post reaction fluid without distilling it first?
There once were some bees and you took all there stuff!
You pissed off the wasp now enough is enough!!!

No but thats a good idea I think it might save me the headache im having now,

I distilled the post reaction leaving salt and alot of black tar on the bottom of the flask.

The distillate was crystal clear and when I added Ether to extract it I found it hard to tell the difference between the ether layer and the water layer. The Ether layer after evaporation only showed a very small amount of left over slightly yellow fluid with the smell of body oder.

Just extract with DCM like Sedit pointed out...you want to use ~1.5:1 ratio DCM to HNO2/water/GBL rxn mix...basing the whole thing will leave you with NaNO2 along with NaGHB, so best off just extracting post rxn with DCM like mentioned. In my experience it's very effective.

Has anyone looked at Sandmeyer reactions that don't use sodium nitrite. I have read about cyanides being used. And for a sillier question cyanates? Sorry was thinkin' C4H9NO2+NaOCN+HCl--->C4H6O2+NaCl+CH4N2O

Extract with Ethyl acetate instead of DCM it's much more effective. And temperature must not go higher than 1 celcius during the sandmeyer. You should read the report of Dr.Methoxy from wetdreams.

suppose one had some GBL allready, purchased before it became illegal and wanted to spice it up a bit. it's just a reflux with base isn't it?

You shouldn't really need to be asking this question its had been covered numerous times by other people and the information is all over the internet WIKI will even give you the answer

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma-Butyrolactone

Spice it up i dunno about that. not a lot of difference in its effect if u ask me

but each to there own

That's all I needed to know,Thanks man. If I feel the need to have a 'practical day' then I shall. :) but if not, I shan't.
