NEW pseudonitrosite reagent Nitrosylsulfuric acid
« on: December 12, 2009, 05:22:00 AM »
Nitrosylsulfuric acid is a very simple nitrosyl compound to make.
it is a crystal rather than a gas so is a lot safer to work with.

as we can see for the patent below it is simply made from nitric acid sulfuric acid and sulfur at room temp.

when Nitrosylsulfuric acid is added to water it acts like sodium nitrite in dilute acid.

It makes a mixture of NO and NO2.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lead_chamber_process

this can be seen in wiki under chemistry in the lead chamber process entry.

this compound removes any need for a nitrite and should infact make sodium nitrite when the
hydrolisis gas is bubbled through a caustic solution.

thankyou for that neoretro is quite the genius :)

I belive that it should be possible to have the alkene in acetic acid with a sodium acetate buffer then drip nitrosylsulfuric acid in sulfuric acid into the solutions to produce
nitrous acid and sodium sulfate in acetic acid.

this should produce the nitrosite with out having any need for nitrite.

thanx to java we have a paper on the brake down of nitrosylsulfuric acid and as we can see the products are N2O3 and sulfuric acid
so I can see no reason why we even need nitrite for pseudonitrosites :)
