Quick wash ISO hash
« on: March 02, 2009, 01:17:44 AM »
I let the trim dry on a piece of window screen until it's getting crispy
I fill a large mason jar 1/2 way up with dry trim and add 1 bottle of 99% ISO. It should just cover the leaves.
Shake vigorously for 30 seconds .
Strain the liquid through a funnel lined with silk screen into a glass cake pan.
Aim a fan across the pan to help it evaporate.
When everything is dry scrape it into a pile and it should look like this.

If you decide to let the alcohol sit longer to try and get more of a yield your finished product will be more oily like this. This is because of the amount of plant oils and chlorophyll it will pull from the material.

Just depends on how much leaf/bud you have to use. If using tril leaf from a grow yea I would use a quart size easy.

Whenever I made ISO oil, I not only let it sit for a day, but I blended the mixture in a blender beforehand.  My buddy said the taste was never an issue, just place a little bit on top of some cheap weed and it'll take you out.

Cool, are you going to follow the original post or add your own method of doing it?

thought id post some results.

I did follow llamaboxs' technique with two exceptions, but instead of 99% ISO, I used 91%. (i don't have access to 99%, nor do i have a proper still)  also, i let the plant material sit in the alcohol for more like 90 seconds (while shaking)

the tek worked great ;D, my product is a little darker than the picture above, but i'll blame that on the weak alcohol, and pouring the alcohol out too late

luckily i did a small test batch and can now do a larger one with my expierence

the product is pretty potent and i will definitely do this again in the future

thanks llamabox

Hey all,

I find a quick wash with everlcear works great as well, and especially well with dry sieve kif.

The product is much more oily than solid, and is best smoked solo in an oil bulb, but it is dyno-mite for sure!

Also, when using everclear, which is not the same as isopropyl at all, you end up with a product made with a food grade solvent, istead of one not labelled to internal uses.

Yes, it costs more, but there are easy ways to recover the everclear and make a little go a long way.

the other method I am familiar with is the use of butane (lighter) gas. Which evaporates super quick and though petroleum based after full evap very little unwanted left behind. The longest part of this method is fitting your trim (although shite hash works) into the necessary PVC pipe.  Around 4-5 foot (of course amount dependent), plug one end fill with trim or weak grass. A small diameter is a hassle but the thinner and longer the better. Unplug and hold pipe vertical to your clean collection jar.  Grab the top 1/2 inch with plyers and place butane gas can upside down gripping this also.  Then squeeze gas through your pipe. Once gas comes through it should be showing signs of what it has pulled. This is your timer as when dilution of oil lightens stop squeezing gas.  Make sure your oil is totally butane free before smoking.
PS this is not a eco friendly method but is one often employed for proper hash oil.

best way I know of if you have glassware.

take material, heat at 105C for 15 mins in oven then heat at 145 for 55 mins.

Grind material in food processor or coffee grinder

place material in round bottom flask with condenser.

add 95% ethanol (for 200g of stems 1.2L of ethanol works well)

reflux for 2H

filter ethanol from solid material with large pore filter

vacuum filter again with tight filter you should recover about 1.1L of liquid.

remove ethanol under vacuum

leaves about 12-15g of residue, for 200g of stems.  This material is great for bakeing.  10g makes about 50 nice brownies. Brownies have a slight plant taste.

IF you want to go for a further round of purification.

re-suspend residue in 200 ml of petroleum ether.

wash with 500 ml h20 3 times.  Washes will be green. Last wash will be clear.

remove P.E under vacuum. yields about 8g of very nice high quality hash. Cooking with it makes products with not discernible taste difference.

You can also fractionally distill this residue (if you have enough) to get >90% pure THC and CNB.  If you guys want info on this let me know.   If you can get 2 Kg of stems it is a very interesting experience.

Any type of plant material can be used, flowers and shade leafs are better than stems, but stems work very nicely.  Most grow operations just throw them out.

its amazing what you can do with the stuff most people throw away.

One can also use acetone to make hash, it is quite popular here.

I don't like acetone because I think it pulls to much other plant material with it.  Comparing a EToH extract to a acetone one, the acetone one tastes much more planty...plus you should really wash the material to get rid of residual acetone.

It is great if you are going to do a second round of purification.  I don't think you need to reflux as long with it, and its cheaper!

The following is a post that I think I pulled off the Hive ten years ago or so. It's the "long road" to the same place as a quick isopropyl extraction, but I still want to try it someday, if for no other reason than the feeling of doing a more "professional" job of it:

Extract everything with methyl alcohol.

Take the resulting crude extract and add water to it. (~50/50). Shake.

Then add about 1/2 as much (as the now total volume of MeOH/water) pet ether (or naptha, or whatever non-polar solvent). Shake again.

The pet ether will bond with the thc, and float to the suface. You will have three layers. A layer of pet ether and thc (and minor other crap). A layer of waxes and dirt and nasty crap. And finally a layer of alcohol/water/chlorophyll, and other water soluble crap.

Finally evaporate the pet ether to leave a not as crude but still rather crude oil. You can clean it up more with charcoal.
There's a methyl to my madness...
