What else can one synthesize with phenylacetone?

I Was going to post this in the main chemistry section. But i figured i would be ramsacked by most members. So i thought i would post it here instead.

[...] aside from making amphetamine and methamphetamine, what other psychedelic drugs could a chemist turn [phenylacetone] into? I Know of at least one. Mephedrone. Which seems quite interesting, i forgot the route however, somebody else might be able to clarify it for me?

N-ethylamphetamine. I'd post others, but they'd be a little out of your reach.

Please research on your own before asking questions like this, and think before you post. It would be easier to make mephedrone from scratch than from phenylacetone.

Please make your posts timeless and impersonal.

Right. I See. N-ethylamphetamine Is probaby not something that i had in mind. But thanks anyway. And i mean from a theoretical perspective btw. Not that i am saying i or anyone else would ever attempt this.

It is easier to make cathinones from propiophenones than from phenylacetones.

Thank you for that information. I Am an extreme noob when it comes to chemistry. But i'm trying my hands at a few things, i'm investigating Propiophenone right now lol.

If you are an extreme noob at chemistry, get some decent books, and practice inorganic chemistry. It will help you a lot. Of course, never stop reading...

Hey Vesp thanks. I Appreciate all info i can get from more seasoned and advanced chemists like you. I've been doing inorganic chemistry for a while, since i was about 14, things like making acids, salts etc.. That kind of stuff, as far as organic chemistry is concerned though, i haven't done anything, right now i am in the process of buying myself a combination heating/magnetic stir plate. I Think that no organic chemistry can be done without that, don't you agree? And really i don't know. Maybe i should try and get into an organic chemistry course at my local university, i think that would help alot.

N-OH-Amphetamine

P2P + Hydroxylamine ---> P2P oxime
P2P oxime + NaBH3CN ---> N-OH-Amphetamine

The freebase should be unstable decomposing to straight amphs while distilling without a very good vacuum, just like N-OH-MDA is (PIHKAL)

Racemic N-OH-Amphetamines have been reported slightly more potent than d-methamphetamine.

Thanks all of this info is very helpful to me. And i am learning alot that i need to know. Another question that i have is this, what is the easiest way to prepare Propiophenone ? If it involves benzene, then that is good, as that's the most familiar way of making these kinds of chemicals to me.

No spoon feeding go research it. I promise you that if the question is about the synthsis of drugs or there precursors then the information is out there in a huge excess.

mephedrone (p-methyl-beta-methylamino-propiophenone) from phenylacetone?? You must be joking!

It is perhaps the narcotic. Hyoscine affects certain people very oddly. One cannot be sure. Sometimes, these cases take strange forms. The victim becomes in a sense, 'mediumistic', a vehicle for all the intangible forces in operation around her.
