Is toluene the same thing as "Tolyol"?

Toluene was ordered at a paint store and they brought something in called "Tolyol".. Could it be the same thing? I understand Toluol is another name for Toluene so it's possible.

when you use google you will find a site that says it's the same.

tolyol is one of the many trade names for toluene, however as a trade chemical it may be far from pure.

i think the assay of trade chems is around 96-98%. main contaminant is sulphur substituted toluenes i believe, probably 1-2% is traces of octane and heptane. It is perfectly servicable for most basic acid/base extractions, the only issue being that it usually comes in a tin meaning there's a small amount of a surfactant in it. It's not ever caused any big problems in swil's experience tho. surfactant type chems are sometimes in the liquid one is extracting from anyway.

trade toluene is probably not so good as a source for toluene as a precursor, but i'm sure there's a way to separate them, i just haven't looked into it myself, because i'm not interested.
