swim was wondering if any catalyst other than platinum on carbon, or platinum oxide can be used in a ketone/methyamine hydrogenation. these ctatalyst are expensive, how about palladium chloride? if not, any info is appreciated! |

can you use NaBH4 or LiAlH4? raney nickel will also work. |

NaBH4, LiAlH4, raney nickel, which on is the least expensive, and more readily available for purchase? also, will any of the mentioned catalyst NaBH4, LiAlH4 or raney nickel, have the slightest change in yeilds, or varialbles of the reaction ? i will look for this info up my self, but any other info is welcome. |

Yields with NaBH4 are high, (In the 90%+ range). Swim has never used LAH before, raney nickel works pretty well, if you are using it in a catalytic hydrogenation system it requires high pressure.
NaBH4 is a nice option here. |

good lord, hehe the LAH is watched, the Raney Nickel and watched and the Pt/C is watched
you might be able to get away with the NaBH4.
All these are watched in the US. In other countries you will have more luck.
Then raney nickel is an aluminium/ nickel alloy 50/50%. I'm sure we could find some nice information on making such alloys. |
