I've always wondered about this.
Does hcl evaporate clean like acetone or methanol?

After titration or gassing, tiny amounts of hcl can become trapped in the crystalline lattice of the product.

Wouldn't a simple re-crystalize with alcohol or water allow the trapped hcl to evaporate into the air? After all I believe pure hcl is a gas.

Or even perhaps letting finished product have an extra day or two after it dries to "cure" perhaps letting any trapped hcl work its way to the surface?

I think the first method would work better.....and other dual sovent methods would work even better. I just really was curious if hcl dries clean?

Thanks

HCl gas isn't trapped inside crystals. it evaporates without remainder. the point is that HCl is maybe trapped in between adjoining crystals, it can be freed by either recrystallization (which is a must anyways) or putting them in a vacuum safe flask and pumping the shit out of it. the crystals will eventually crack up and release any trapped solvent or HCl.

Thats what I thought, and that makes sense to me but.....

I have read posts back at the hive, where they suggested things like an "acetone rinse to wash off any excess hcl", for example. There were quite a few posts like that, and I even remember a post where Rhodium himself mentioned how tiny amounts of hcl can become trapped inside the lattice of the crystal after gassing.

However your response is what I wanted to hear. It's good news, although a second opinion would be nice to further confirm your response.
