1st Class - March 15th

For anyone that loves chemistry, or wants to touch up, on a few skills, we are offereing an online 3 year degree in chemistry,

We have alot of students here doing chemistry,
I am about to undertake 3 years of pure chemistry, so in an aid to help myself, and everyone here, we are going to start a collaborative effort,
to understand and learn everyting that a professional chemist would know,

As every tutorial, Pract, and lecture happens, I will document them here, in an orderded fashion, so we can all work through the syllabus together,

We will discuss certain topics, and try to get a deeper understanding of the course, by sharing information and excerps from books.
We can tap into the knowledge base here, and answer all questions, that might come up,

There is about 15 days to go before we commence,
So get ready,

Introduction to Chemistry A
Introduction to Mathematics A
Chemistry 1B
Introduction to chemistry B
Introduction to Mathematics 1B

I will see everyone back here, in a couple of weeks,

I would like to refresh what I learned some time ago.....as always the teacher learns along with the student, as the review provides insight into things missed and things that now make sense looking back at the basics........ and of course the student always learns from the text and from the experience ot the teachers.......java

Swim is intersted as well Swim has a good undrestanding of basic reflux vacuum distilations
seperating chems but is sad to say can't read a formula for shit: example
(one mol hexamine, four mol of hydrochloric acid and 3 mol absolute ethanol)Swims guess would be one part to 4 parts to 3 parts Swim could probably do the reaction but doesn't understand the moles doesn't under stand why bees speak of powder in terms of ml instead of grams and liquid in moles instesd of ml; Crying or Very sad

I guess swims not the brightest bee in the hive when it comes to technical terms.

Swim's been a completey chemistry-dud at school, not having any clue what to do with chemistry (chemistry ?!? pfff ...)
Now he knows! so he will observe this noble experiment with greatest possible interest Very Happy

Swiy is very intersted.

swiys try'n to teach himslef has been a trick.Tho he has loaded himslef down with books and equipment and has tried many of experiments from many boards/books he truly feels the need to know what he's doing.(better) have'n Correspondence in the learn'n phases can be nothing but a plus.
Swiy never had a chance to do school .(even now school would be hard)But a online course is very possable.
count me in.

I'm also doing first year pure chemistry.
Our classes are:

Maths
Organic chemistry
chemistry: chromatography, pH calculations, spectometric UV/vis, titrations etc.
Physics
Biology
Chemical technology

Etc.

I hope I can be helpfull and also learn new things.

does one got to test in to take this , will there be a cert to go with it , do you need any basic chem , or will this start at A then to Z , still sound like fun to bee , looking for ward to it,

it should help,
Within 9 months we would have completed the first year of a 3 year degree,

I will post most if not all the material, notes, material, short quiz's,OCR's from the required text

As maybee some people might not have the books, portions could be scanned, thus making it very helpful,

so I will post this weekend, the complete weeks work,

The lectures thus far are quite interesting, and will be invaluable to the chemist,
And whilst doing it, it will improve all of our grades, plus at the end,
we will have a complete compendium of the degree, for future students,[Invaluable[/]

So get ready,
Know your valencies, remember the first 30 elements,
Know the difference betwen mixtures/compounds/elements

Know how to work out a balanced equation,

Can you give us a complete list of books, list of what chapters to read when, etc? I just might consider investing in some of them, if not all.

Yep.
I have a list of all the books,
When I get to uni, today, i will write them down,

Since I am only doing 2 subjects this semester, maths for chemistry, and chemistry,
I shouldn't be that busy,
There I was yesterday in class, with my knowledge that I learnt here,
You would be surprised, how well you all will go,

When chem is your passion, It sure studing it, actually fun,
I thoroughly recommend this to anyone,

Will speak later today,

There's only a few books for this semester, about 6 in total,
