Beeing a damn foreigner I have no idea what level of chemistry this course
is at, does it require any prior knowledge of chemistry?

Ok, I halfway through the first week, and I have been spending 10 hours a day at it,
no, no previous experience is required, as the courses are introductory,
So on the weekend, I will write up the first week,
I have all the notes, lectures, etc, so It shouldn't be too bad,

Intro chem2A and intro maths for chem 1a,

I have found it really exciting, and enjoyable so far,
I've sat the first maths test, and got a high distinction, whoooh!!

So, your gonna need access to a scientific calculator,
if you haven't you'll need to use
www.calculator.com, like I have been-smile,

I walk around the labs, and I am speechless,

When we are further in the learning progress I am also willing to teach some organic chemistry to you people.
I am studying this myself out of this book:

"Solomon&Fryhle
Organic Chemistry eight edition."

Anyway I'm talking about racemic mixtures here and about optical configuration etc. with R and S and stereocenter.

The course thus far is dealing with all the basic's
Like avogadro's number, how many grams of an element to a mole,
Basic chemical equations, and balancing, understanding the periodic chart,
and understanding valancies, of the common elements and compounds,
So as long as I stay a week in front of what I post here, we should be fine,

So in about two weeks, i will present the first test,
I am speeking with nazlfrag, the coder, to make the tests online, as they are organised in true/false answers,
With any luck, we should be able to mark them automatically, and return your grades,
I will provide all the lecture notes, and papers, so there is no excuse, not to get a great mark,

This is a learning tool for myself as well, so I look forward to doing this, on saturday,

To think by the end of next week, you will of improved your chemical knowledge,
It is a powerful thing to know how it all works,
Goodluck to all of us,!

I think the hardest thing we've learnt this week is remembering the valencies of some of the not so common comounds,

Carbonates and sulfates, Co3's and So4's have a valency of -2,
Others like Bicarbonate Hco3, hydrogen sulfates HSo4's have -1,

So elements like sodium Na(formerly Natrium) that has a valency of +1
will bond with sulfates, ie Naso4, NaHCo3,

But if we use say the sulfates or carnonates, we get
Na2Co3, and Na2so4, etc, notice the 2 after the Na,
But with some group 2 elements like Calcium, or Zinc, which have a valency of 2+,
We see the effect,
Ie CaCO3, or ZnSO4, valency must be add up to a neutrl charge,
Thus lets have a look at a common one we use here-
Cacl2-Since chlorine has a valency of -1(ie Nacl)Na+-Cl-
then we know that Ca, must have a valency of 2+,
Ca(2+) +(Cl-)2,

So this is what we will be learning, it makes all the pieces of the puzzle fit,

For a something to do, before we start, It will help to know the first 30 elements,
