This was the first extraction I ever worked out. It is a simple
method of extracting about 500mg of Codeine Phosphate salt from
100 8mg Panadeine tablets. Comes in mighty handy if your hanging
out with nothing more then $10, a 500ml enamel cup, a 40cm length
of 20mm poly pipe and some toilet paper.

Dissolve your 100 tabs in about 250ml of COLD water, when
dissolved, mix and settle in a fridge. If the water is cold most
of the chalk and undissolved paracetamol will settle out leaving
the solution near clear. If it is clear, carefully syphon off the
clear top layer and discard the chalk layer. If it's not clear
roll up a neat even sausage of toilet paper to fit semi tight in
the end of the 40cm length of 20mm poly pipe, to make a simple
filtering coulomb, which you then pour the un-clear Panadeine
solution. Collect the clear solution / filtrate and place it in
the enamel cup and boil it to about 20 to 30ml. Remove the cup
from the heat and place it in the freezer for a couple of
minutes. Upon cooling a white precipitate of Paracetamol will
form on the bottom of the cup. Using a peace of cotton wool and a
20 ml syringe remove all the solution + a 5ml cold water wash.
Rinse out the cup replace the filtrate and back on the heat,
reduce the solution to about 10ml. This time upon cooling, the
Paracetamol will be about half the solution. Using the cotton
wool and syringe remove the concentrate Codeine solution.

WARNING there is a fucker load of Codeine Phosphate there, about
300 to 800mg. So don't blow your head off if you shoot it.
Injecting Codeine is not quit advisable to the average weekend
user, but fuck you only live once.

What I use to do was have a 300mg shot of Codeine in the doctors
car park then crawl inside with a massive Codeine headache and 9
out of 10 doctors would do me a shot of Peth. But like I said
Shooting Codeine can cause brain haemorrhage, due to high blood
pressure. Maybe just eat it.

Over the years, I have developed my own technique for extracting
codeine from OTC aspirin products. I have read the FAQ and think
that the cold water method is a good process but that my process
is better since it eliminates the bulk of the caffeine and is
much easier to do. The only drawback of my process is that it
doesn't work with Tylenol containing tablets. Thus the procedure
below only is useful with empirin/codeine or AC&C type tablets
from Canada.

Advantages:

Removes almost all the aspirin.
Brings almost very little caffeine to the product.
Is faster to prepare.
Requires no power, refrigeration or complicated equipment.
Has built in filtration.
Necessary equipment can fit in a small pouch or bag.
None of the equipment is restricted.

Disadvantage:

Doesn't work with tablets containing Tylenol.


The equipment needed is readily available and will fit into a relatively small
pouch or bag. I will list the equipment below:

20cc or 30cc syringe, either glass or plastic (available at hobby or craft
stores)
Small piece of paper towel about 3 x 3 inches
Mortar and Pestle (to grind tablets, or suitable substitute)
Funnel
Water
Small collection bottle

Procedure:

Take the small piece of paper towel and fold it up so that it
forms a plug about 1/8" thick that will fit the circular area of
the 20cc syringe that you have chosen. Get it soaked with water
and push it down to the bottom of the syringe. Insert the syringe
plunger and push it all the way down and press the paper at the
bottom. The paper should form a plug that fits the shape of the
syringe about 1/8 inch thick. Your filtering syringe is now ready
for use. You only have to do this part once.

Grind about 20 AC&C tablets (160mg codeine) into a fine powder. I
use a thick walled juice glass about 2 inches tall and a steel
rod about 1/2 inch in diameter and 6 inches long. I place the 20
tablets in the bottom and break them each by placing the end of
the steel rod on each tablet and pressing while twisting. After
all are broken up, move the steel rod around against the walls
for about a minute to grind into a fine powder. It is important
that a fine powder be obtained. Note: AC&C tabs come from
basically 2 manufacturers. One makes a little larger tablet that
is much easier to grind. I get this one as a brand name called
"Life". The other maker usually is the "Big V" brand. Both work
well, the slightly larger tabs just grind easier.

Pour the powder into the open syringe. It should go in evenly.
Use a funnel or a paper water cup with the bottom cut off to pour
it in. In a 20cc syringe, it will fill about 10cc or so. Gently
tamp down the surface of the powder about a quarter inch or so to
make a firm surface. I use the steel rod to do this. Pour down
the sides about 5 to 8cc of room temperature water. Pour it down
the sides as to not break up the surface of the powder. Gently
insert the plunger into the syringe and apply gentle pressure.
You want the water to take about a minute to travel evenly
through the powder. It is important that it travel evenly, if not
then you made a mistake in grinding, pouring or packing the
powder. As the water travels through the powder, codeine's large
solubility makes it concentrate in the leading edge of the water
inhibiting the dissolution of the aspirin and caffeine.

Collect about 3 to 4 cc of the solution, about 60 to 80 drops
depending on the syringe tip. This small volume of solution will
have virtually all of the codeine and very little of the aspirin
and caffeine. When done, withdraw the plunger. Then, many times,
you can blow hard on the end of the syringe and the plug of
aspirin will come out making it ready for next time.

This solution can be sterilized and IM injected

[Ed. note: ...I don't know what drugs this guy's on, but
injecting codeine is *not* a good thing to do. See previous
post.]

or just taken orally. I usually do 2 of these batches into a 20cc
small bottle. For oral use, I'll fill the rest of the bottle with
water so that I can judge the dose more accurately. For IM
injection, I'll put one batch in the bottle and add an equal
volume of water. Then loosen the lid to allow pressure to escape
and put it in the microwave for 10 to 60 seconds depending on the
oven. Watch through the window and stop it when it starts to
boil. Allow it to cool and it is ready for injection into one of
many enjoyable spots. A fine point for IM, they put an acidic
powder in the tabs which makes the product solution irritating
when injected. This can be neutralized with a very small amount
of baking soda. Don't add too much though, if the solution goes
basic in pH it will be much worse than the original. If the
solution doesn't fizz when you add the baking soda, you've added
too much.

This simple technique is fast and efficient. I can perform this
procedure in a couple of minutes. If you try this with tabs
containing tylenol, it will form a solid plug of powder and no
matter how hard you apply pressure you won't be able to get any
solution out. For tylenol products, use the FAQ cold water
technique.

Right this will work in pill preps containing the following
Codeine and Paracetamol (acetaminophen) tablets with chalk and non
thickening binder.
You will need the following

1. Codeine tabs

2. A clean pot and lid and two 300ml glasses

3. A sieve and funnel of similar circumference

4. Two or more unbleached coffee filters (as against white
bleached ones if unavailable soak and rinse the bleached ones)

5. A fridge freezer or an ice bath

6. A syringe and roll your own ciggy filters and prep pads
(Boomerang brand or wood fibre as against most that are fibre
glass) Now clean up a square metre of bench space and place down
clean newspaper. Wash the pot / lid and the glasses, funnel and
sieve in hot "fresh" soapy water. Then rinse in a mild caustic
wash finally running under hot water and allowing to air dry dont
use a towel. Before using wipe with a prep pad, I mean CLEAN. Now
pop the pills into the glass and add enough water to make a milk
shake consistency (not too thick) Now set up the filters pre
moisten them and place two (one inside the other) in a cup shape
inside the sieve. Then sit thesieve in the funnel and sit that
inside the other clean glass. Tip the pill goop into the filter
and leave it alone to gravity filter don't fuck with it you will
only poke holes in the filter or stir it all up. The filtrate
should be clear, absolutely clear and if not a refilter may be
necessary. Once the liquid has moved thru throw it into that
clean pot and reduce down to 10-15ml and then place (with a lid
on) into the freezer or in the ice bath. After 20min take it out
and look what has happened. The paracetamol crystallizes to a
white insoluble slurry while the more soluble codeine is liquid.
Now get the pre moistened ciggy filters and build a stack the is
higher than the surface of the liquid and suck up with the
syringe. Now get your favourite spoon and render this liquid down
to about 2ml and repeat the cooling process again. You will get a
few (shouldn't be many) crystals the second time just filter once
again with ciggy filters and up into the fit. Now what you have
there is quite concentrated codeine and very little paracetamol
and some pill binder. That method worked for me very well on
codeine preps containing the ingredients stated. I blasted it
many times however without seeing individual preps cannot still
recommend that for everything. It worked very well on our
panadeine and pamol (with codiene) Even if you drink it at least
you are minimizing paracetamol intake have fun

Before I get flamed for not posting this to ADC (I will), I am
posting in ADH since so many of you have asked about extracting
codeine from APAP in this group. Having tried the cold water
method and finding the yield intolerable, I set out to find a
better way of extracting codeine from your basic T3's. I think
I've hit on a better method with a lot better yield (>90%)

To do this, you will need some chloroform or other solvent in
which codeine base will dissolve, APAP won't. Merck says that
chloroform works best, although I suspect that methylene chloride
will work just as well. Ether will work, but it's just too
dangerous for my taste. You will also need some dry sodium
carbonate. (bicarb might work here, although I haven't tried
it.) DO NOT USE SODIUM HYDROXIDE, IT REACTS WITH THE APAP TO
FORM SOME SORT OF EVIL LOOKING BLUE GOOP. Na(CO3)2 WILL RAISE
THE pH JUST FINE. Lastly, you will need a large pyrex lasagna
pan in which to evaporate your product to dryness.

First, place uncrushed T3's or other APAP/codeine product in a
small glass or beaker and cover with enough distilled water so
that the pills will break down into a thin paste. For 30 T3's, I
use about 30-35 ml of H20. Let the pills soak until completely
broken down into paste. Next add about 5-8 grams of dry sodium
carbonate to reduce the codeine phosphate to codeine base. The
paste will thicken somewhat and bubbles of CO2 will form in the
paste as the codeine phosphate is reduced. Add enough distilled
water so that the mixture is about the consistency of thin
pancake batter and stir the mixture thoroughly with a wooden or
glass rod. The pH of the mixture should be about 11 or greater.
If it isn't, add more Na(CO3)2 until it is.

Next, pour the mixture into the pyrex pan and rinse the beaker
with a few ml of distilled water and add the rinse water to the
mix in the pan. Use the stir rod to spread the grayish mixture
around the pan so that the layer is as thin as possible. Let the
mix dry overnight. You can pop the pan into an oven set to warm,
(no hotter), if you want to speed things up.

After the mixture has completely dried, use a single-edge razor
blade to scrape the mixture from the pan. It should just flake
off in slabs. Now, wrap the dried material in a coffee filter and
crush it so that the pieces are about the size of grains of rice.
It isn't necessary to grind the stuff any finer, since it would
probably clog the filter in the last step anyhow. Pour the dry
crushed mixture into a glass bottle with a screw-on top and pour
in enough chloroform to completely cover the "gravel" in the
bottle. Seal the bottle and shake for a few minutes. Let the
contents settle for a minute or two while you set up a gravity
filtering apparatus. This can be a coffee filter in a metal
strainer, or if you have it, a piece of filter paper in a glass
filter funnel. You can't use plastic because the chloroform will
attack it and ruin your product. Clean and dry the pyrex pan and
set it under the filter to catch the filtered chloroform. Shake
the chloroform/"gravel" mixture and pour it into the filter,
letting the chloroform/codeine mixture run into the glass pan.
Let the chloroform evaporate while you put the wet gravel back
into the bottle and shake with a fresh portion of chloroform. It
isn't necessary to use as much as you did the first time. Again
pour the chloroform/gravel mix into the filter paper.

After the second portion of chloroform has run through the
filter, you can drip a few ml of clean chloroform onto the filter
paper and wet gravel to get the last bit of codeine from the APAP
and chalk. You should set the glass pan with the chloroform
outside to evaporate to dryness. Do not place it into an oven to
force dry it. While chloroform is not very flamable, I found out
the hard way that chloroform vapor is broken down on contact with
the heating elements of the stove to form deadly phosgene gas.

Be patient, soon enough you will have nearly pure codeine base in
the bottom of the glass pan. After the codeine has evaporated,
you might notice that the codeine is sticky. This is because
evaporating chloroform gets very cold and room humidity will
condense into the mixture. If this happens, you can oven warm
the codeine, but only after you can no longer smell the
chloroform in it. You can now use the razor blade to scrape up
the crude product. The codeine base will not weigh as much as an
equivalent amount of codeine phosphate, because you have stripped
the phosphate ions and left behind the pure alkaloid. Fear not,
it is still potent orally, just remember to adjust your dose
downward. Codeine base weighs only 75.3% as much as an equimolar
amount of codeine phosphate. If you want to re-salt it, you can
use the following proces:

Into 20 ml of acetone add 2 ml of phosphoric acid and set this
mixture aside. Dissolve your crude codeine base into enough
acetone so that it just dissolves. You might have to warm up the
acetone to get it to dissolve completely. If you want to clean
up any insoluble contaminants at this point, take a pasteur pipet
and pack a small wad of cotton into the point where the pipet
narrows. using another pipet, drip the codeine/acetone mixture
through the cotton. Follow this with a ml or two of clean
acetone to get all the codeine from the pipet filter. Next, mix
the acetone/phosphoric acid solution into the acetone/codeine
base solution in a 50/50 ratio. As you stir the resultant
misture, you will see the codeine phosphate quickly precipitate
from the acetone as a sticky gummy mass. As you stir the
solution, the final product should form a bolus on the stirring
rod and look like a wad of chewing gum. Rinse the bolus in a
small amount of fresh acetone and then smear it on a glass plate
to dry. As the acetone evaporates, the codeine phosphate (CP)
will appear to melt. This is because the CP is highly
hygroscopic and is absorbing water from the air. Gently warm the
CP in an oven to drive off the last of the acetone and then use a
pipet or syringe to first drip water onto the CP, and then suck
up the CP solution. You may now drink your product, or you can
again reduce it to codeine base and extract it with chloroform if
you prefer a much purer, powdered product.

Even after two acid-base extractions, I have gotten up to 93% of
the available codeine from T3's with absolutely zero APAP in the
finished product. If you choose codeine base as your final
product, you can now easily turn it into even yummier alkaloids,
but that is for another posting.

Sorry about the long cross-posting, but I believe in sharing
information which will result in a purer (read: safer) final
product:

"Can I extract freebase codeine from AC&C tablets"

Yes you can. but it may be illegal to do so in your area.

Note: THIS PROCEDURE WILL ONLY WORK WITH AC&C.
This is a mixture of Aspirin with both caffeine and codeine. These
are easily available in Canada and the UK. If it has acetaminophen
in it it will not work.

Last year someone posted the poor mans guide to Codeine
extraction. While this helped save the liver of many users, the
problem was the caffeine remained, and the end product not
smokable. This guide will show people with some chemistry
experience how to make smokeable freebase codeine.

Items needed:
Aspirin with Codeine tablets. 1000 tabs minimum
Funnels and filter paper (preferably a Buchner funnel for fast
filtering.)
Seperatory funnel.
Beakers, Evaporating dishes ETC

Chemicals needed.
5 % phosphoric acid solution.
Chloroform.
Sodium Hydroxide.

Put tablets in a very large glass bowl and add the hot 5%
Phosphoric acid solution. The pills will start to disintegrate
immediately. The reason we are using a 5% phosphoric acid instead
of just water is so the phosphoric acid will supplement the
Phosphate in the Codeine phosphate, and to help to increase
extraction. The reason we are using hot water is to get the most
codeine into the water quickly. Most of the aspirin will
precipitate as soon as the mixture is cooled.

When all the pills have dissolved, stir well, cool your mixture to
just above freezing. Filter the mixture. When the water has
drained, take the solids and put it back in the glass bowl. Filter
the solids three times to ensure that all codeine had been removed
from the mixture. Discard the remaining paste, as this is mostly
aspirin, and the codeine is in the water. Note that this step can
be done in an hour or two with a Buchner or vacuum filter. It can
take days with gravity filtration.

You now probably have a large volume of dirty looking water that
you must evaporate down to a manageable volume of say 100 to 150
millilitres. Remember that codeine is sensitive to light and heat.
Codeine sublimates (turns into a gas) at moderate temperature and
light is known to break it down. This means that care is needed
when evaporating the water down.

What you have now is a mixture of codeine, caffeine, some residual
aspirin and phosphoric acid in about 100-150 ml solution Now comes
the fun part.

The next step is to get rid of the caffeine. 1 gram of caffeine
will dissolve in 5.5 ml of chloroform, but it takes 4.5 Litres of
chloroform to dissolve 1 gram of codeine phosphate.

Extraction #1 (caffeine)
Put your mixture in a seperatory funnel. Wash three times with 20
ml chloroform. Making sure to shake and vent thoroughly between
each wash. Remember that chloroform is heavier than water and it
will be the bottom layer. After the three
washes you should be left with 60 ml chloroform that has all the
caffeine from you mixture. This chloroform can be discarded or
kept if you can recover the chloroform.

You now have to make the remaining solution in the seperatory
funnel basic with the addition of NaOH. Bringing it up to 11
should do the trick. As you add the NaOH you will quickly start to
see pure codeine freebase start to precipitate out of the solution
as white crystals.

Do this right in the seperatory funnel, and please remember to
shake and vent the funnel thoroughly as many times as it takes
till there is no more reaction. Don't be too alarmed if the funnel
get extremely hot due to the chemical reaction, but it may be wise
to slow the rate at which you are adding the NaOH in this case.

Remember how above I told you that it took four and a half Litres
to dissolve 1 gram of codeine phosphate? Now you have pure codeine
freebase floating around the solution in the seperatory funnel ,
and 1 gram of codeine freebase dissolves in 0.5 ml chloroform.
This is 9000 times more soluble than before we added the NaOH.
With the adjusted PH any residual aspirin is not soluble in
chloroform.

Extraction # 2 (codeine)
Do three 10 to 20 Ml washes with chloroform (remember chloroform
is the bottom layer)
And evaporate in an evaporation dish. The chloroform will quickly
evaporate and you are left with codeine freebase the bottom of the
dish.

Yield: Approx 7 grams codeine freebase per 1000 pills (with 8mg
C/P per pill)

Notes:

1. This is not cost effective for anything less than 1000 pills,
3000 -5000 preferred.

2. Several washes of the paste will increase yield. You can tell
by the colour of the water when you have all the goodies.

3. Remember that chloroform is a proven carcinogen; so be thorough
in your work. Make sure evaporation is complete.

4. DCM can likely be used as a chloroform replacement.

5. Remember that this process will not work with acetaminophen,
Tylenol 1,2,3,4 ETC.
It will only work with AC&C. (Aspirin, caffeine and codeine)

6. Wear gloves and glasses when dealing with chemicals. Lab safety
procedures do apply to you.

7. Sodium hydroxide can burn your dick off.

8. Smoking codeine freebase can be extremely addictive.

summarizing all relevant medical research, etc, but I didn't get
around to doing it so far. If you care to help, or have interesting

extraction FAQ. It corrects a few errors, and adds some new info.

Introduction
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Codeine is a member of the drug class opiates. Opiates
include all naturally occurring drugs with morphine-like effects
such as codeine and all semi and fully synthetic drugs with
morphine-like effects such as heroin and meperidine (Demerol).
Codeine was first discovered as a natural constituent of
opium in very small concentrations, in the range of 0.7% - 2.5%
by weight. Most codeine found in pharmaceutical products today
is synthetically produced via the methylation of morphine.
Codeine is available by prescription only in most areas
of the US. Exceptions are seen in some states where codeine can
be purchased over-the-counter (OTC) in products containing a small
dose of codeine. Also in Canada, some codeine containing products
are available OTC in most if not all provinces. With the codeine
available in the US OTC, release forms may have to be signed,
including your name and address, in order to keep track of how
much codeine you are buying.
[In Canada you will have no difficulty buying codeine. Not only
are there no forms to sign, but no questions are usually asked.
In the US many paternalistic pharmacists will not sell if they
don't like your looks.]
The amount of codeine allowable by law in OTC products is
8mg per unit dose of a drug. A example is 325mg of acetaminophen
(a unit dose of acetaminophen) and 8mg codeine per tablet. This
law is used to prevent the excessive use of codeine as one would
have to take doses reaching toxicity of acetaminophen before any
real problems with the codeine administration would occur. It's
the same situation with aspirin. With OTC cough medications, the
highest amount of codeine allowed is 3.3mg/ml. This
concentration is _so_ low that this FAQ will not be discussing
cough syrups as a source of recreational codeine. The tablet
form of OTC codeine products usually also includes 15mg of
caffeine in each standard dose.
[In Canada the law dictates that all codeine OTC products must
contain at least two other active ingredients. This usually
translates into caffeine and acetominophen/APAP.]
Prescription codeine containing products are usually not
available without another drug included such as acetaminophen.
Rx (prescription) products include the Tylenol w/ codeine series
(#1,2,3,4) containing respectively 8mg, 15mg, 30mg, 60mg of
codeine. Each tablet also contains caffeine in doses of 15mg,
30mg, 30mg and 0mg respectively. Thus Tylenol #4 w/ codeine
(the most desired one) contains 325mg of acetaminophen, 60mg of
codeine and no caffeine. Another Rx product is the 222, 292,
293, 294 series. They are identical to the Tylenol w/ codeine
series, except aspirin replaces the acetaminophen. The Rx
products are good sources of codeine for recreational use except
most of us don't have sources that can obtain these drugs,
therefore this FAQ contains a procedure so that one can easily
obtain large amount of codeine from OTC products.

Effects and Uses
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Codeine is mainly used as a pain reliever, but is also
used for the relief of a non-productive cough, and as a
anti-diarrheal agent. 120mg of codeine administered SC
(subcutaneously, injected under the skin) provides pain relief
equal to 10mg of morphine administered by the same route. Doses
used to relieve cough or diarrhea range from 5mg to 30mg.
Codeine is absorbed quickly from the GI tract and it's
first pass through the liver results in very little loss of the
drug. This contrasts with morphine in which over 90% of the drug
is metabolized in the first pass through the liver resulting in a
considerable loss of potency when administered orally. This is
why codeine is a common opiate in the relief of pain, the ease of
oral administration.
Codeine can be administered by many routes, this includes,
SC, IM (intramuscularly), as an enema, and orally. Note, codeine
can't be administered safely by IV (intravenously) injection as
it can result in pulmonary edema (fluid in lungs), facial swelling
and other life threatening complications.
Codeine is converted to morphine in the brain. This of
course will result in a positive result in a drug test for the
opiates. It is not known whether or not the drugs heroin,
morphine or codeine can be separately determined on a drug test.
In other words it isn't likely that the drug tester can determine
which of the three above drugs you have taken, he just knows
you've taken one or more of them.
Note! Addiction to codeine can occur. Tolerance is also
seen with chronic use. Although the withdrawal is minimal with
codeine, it is not a fun time. Please be cautious in your use
of the drug.
Some common side effects from codeine include drowsiness,
light-headedness, dry mouth, urinary retention (difficulty in
urination), constipation and of course, euphoria. Adverse
effects can include itchiness (common), confusion, nausea and
vomiting. The nausea experienced with codeine is less common
and less intense than that experienced with the stronger opiates
such as morphine. A tip to all those using opiates, lying down
does wonders to the nausea. If you ever experience nausea on
opiates it is different than the commonly experienced nausea as
it is more of a light-headed nausea. Lying down will almost
always relieve the nausea in a couple minutes, which after you
can attempt to stand up again.
Codeine is a _excellent_ opiate to start experimenting
with. Although the euphoria is not as intense as that
experienced with the stronger opiates, the euphoria can still be
quite intense. It also must be noted that like most other drugs,
some experience is required before the full effects can be
noticed and enjoyed. The best dose to start at is the
30mg - 60mg dosage. That way you won't experience many adverse
effects and you can continue to take this small amount until you
feel the desired effects, after that you can increase the dosage
as you please. Most people settle around the 250mg mark for the
best euphoria, with the least side effects. The best idea is to
take in a situation where you won't become distracted. You can
get yourself into a comfortable position and relax because you
will become _quite_ relaxed. It may take 5 to 20 times before
you can appreciate the effects. The effects are subtle like
marijuana and it takes some time before you come to recognize
them all.
The LD50 (lethal dose for %50) is 800mg in the average
person. Death from codeine, unlike most opiates, includes
restlessness, seizures and eventually death from respiratory
arrest.
[Some sources indicate that the lower-end LD50 may be around
500mg, so doses above 450mg are in the red zone.]
Using Codeine
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again a good dose to start using codeine at is in the
30mg to 60mg range. At this dosage range the adverse effects
tend to be minimal, and the pleasurable effects quite noticeable.
[I have never noticed any euphoria below 100mg, so don't give
up just because two 3s don't give you a high. *However, some
unfortunate individuals are allergic to codeine, and, if you
have never used it before, first try a dose of around 30-60mg
to see what will happen. It is dangerous to start off in the
high dose range.*]
It is usually a good idea to take the drug on an empty stomach,
and if nausea is experienced or you get hungry (not likely) you
can have something to eat. On an empty stomach the effects will
become noticeable within 15 min depending on the dose. With
higher doses the effects can begin in as little as 7 min. The
effects peak at around 1 hr with the experience nearing it's end
at around the 3 - 4 hr point. Again with higher doses effects
may last 4 - 6 hours.
The effects will usually begin with a slight sedation,
and a feeling of warmth coming over you body. Muscular relaxation
is also quite noticeable. The subjective effects are quite hard
to describe beyond the word euphoria. The sedation associated
with codeine is quite a lot less than that experienced with
morphine or other stronger opiates. A strong feeling of
contentment is usually also experienced. Most people enter
a phase where you become quite content and tend to lose interest
in their surroundings. A heavy feeling in the limbs also
becomes quite noticeable. This will peak at 1hr with the effects
slowly tapering off after 2hr.

Codeine Extraction Technique
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due to the difficulty in obtaining Rx drugs containing
enough codeine to be used recreationally, I have included a
procedure that allows one to extract the codeine from OTC
products to obtain enough of the drug to use recreationally.
This extraction can *only* be used on OTC products
containing either acetaminophen or aspirin in addition to the
codeine. There is one exception to this rule. Products
containing caffeine can be used with the knowledge that the most
of the caffeine contained in the OTC product, *will* be found
in the finished product. This should not matter to most people,
but to those with problems in taking caffeine, *you have been
warned*!
[In the previous version I noted that it was better to use
aspirin cotaining products. Further research has shown that
this is very questionable. It seems that acetominophen is
less hepato/nephro-toxic (liver/kidney) than aspirin under
most circumstances. In addition, aspirin is not good on the
stomach. On the other hand, aspirin is far less soluble which
means that you'll end up with less of it in the finished
product. Given that the extraction, done properly, will leave
you with less than a gram of either, this isn't that important.
Aspirin is also easier/faster to filter.]
The idea behind the following extraction is that
acetaminophen and aspirin (I'll use A/A from now on) are very
_insoluble_ in cold water. Codeine phosphate (the most common
salt of codeine) is very _soluble_ in water including cold water.
The following table explains:
Solubility (31C water) Solubility (21C

Aspirin 1g / 100 ml 1g / 300ml
Acetaminophen 1g / 70 ml 1g / 150 ml
Codeine 1g / 2.3 ml 1g / 0.7 ml
Phosphate
So as you can see, both A/A aren't very soluble in 21C
water, so if you cool the water to around 10C, the solubility will
drop even further. That way you can dissolve 20 tablets in 50ml
of hot water, cool the water down to 10C, filter the solution and
end up with the same amount of codeine as the tablets contained
but only a fraction of the original amount of A/A.
It must be noted that because most of the caffeine will
also be in the finished product, using large amount of tablets in
the following procedure will result in large amount of caffeine
in the finished product. For example the use of 20 tablets will
result in about 300mg of caffeine in the finished product
(15mg/tablets * 20 tablets). I personally haven't experienced
any adverse reactions due to this amount of caffeine. Because
of codeine's sedative effects the "jitters" and other adverse
effects of large amount of caffeine are not experienced.

The Procedure
1. Obtain a quantity of tablets containing codeine, check to
see if they contain anything other than codeine, caffeine,
acetaminophen or aspirin. If they do, and you don't know whether
or not it will be a problem, your best bet is not to use them.
Measure out your desired amount of codeine (ex. 64 mg = 8 tablets
* 8mg/tablet). You may want to add 2 extra tablets as it is quite
likely you will lose some codeine in the procedure. As you get
more experience with the procedure you will be able to get
approx. 95% of the codeine extracted.
2. Measure out some nice hot water, use approx. 40ml / 20 tablets
or more if needed. I would suggest you don't go over 50ml for 20
tablets. I don't know if the use of boiling water would destroy
any of the codeine but your best bet is not to use it. Use hot
water but not boiling. Make sure the tablets dissolve completely.
Some dissolve on contact with water while others need some help
dissolving by crushing them. Note : not all of the tablet will
dissolve, there are water-insoluble fillers in the tablet and not
all of the A/A will dissolve either(which is what we want).
[Most sources recommend that codeine not be stored at temperatures
in excess of 40C (104F), so its probably better to use warm, but
not hot, water. I find that it is best to crash the tablets
completely in a container, and then dissolve them in a glass with
water.]
3. Place the solution in a cold bath, I just use some ice cubes
in a container of water. Stir the mixture occasionally until the
solution drops to about 15C or lower. You won't need a
thermometer to measure the temperature, just make sure it's
"cold". This will take about 30 min. If you wish to speed this
up, you can use less water to dissolve the tablets, and add ice
chips to cool the mixture faster. Just make sure you don't add
so much ice that you drastically increase the volume of the mixture.
4. Filter the solution using whatever you have. Coffee filters
work well, but lab filters work the best. Just make sure you
don't end up with obvious solids in the filtered solution. This
will take about 1 hr. You may also want to rinse the solids left
over in the filter with some ice-water to extract any remaining
codeine.
[With aspirin this will take only about 20-30 minutes.]
5. Drink and enjoy! The solution will be _very_ bitter, so I mix
a little Kool-aid powder into the solution. The taste isn't really
bad but it's similar to sucking on a lemon.
[One gets used to the taste after a while.Smile]
6. Sit back and wait for the effects. Because the codeine is
already in solution it only needs to be absorbed, while codeine
in the tablet form must dissolve before being absorbed. Because
of this, the effects will probably become noticeable within 15min.
Note : I don't suggest you evaporate the mixture unless you are
willing to wait a while. The Merck index warns that codeine is
sensitive to heat and light. For that reason if you wish to
evaporate the mixture, do it without heat, and shield the solution
from light.

[Pharmacology and Drug Interactions
In order to take full advantage of codeine, it is helpful to be
familiar with some relevant pharmacology:
*CYP2D6
The body converts codeine into morphine (~10%) by using the so called
P450 cytochrome pathway, especially cytochrome 2d6 (cyp2d6).
Unfortunately, cyp2d6 is missing in about 7% of the white population,
and its manifestation is quite variable in the rest. Individuals
who inherited a cyp2d6 deficiency will get many of the adverse
effects associated with codeine but little euphoria. If codeine
just doesn't work for you, this may be why.
Some drugs also interfere with cyp2d6. Prime among these are
the SSRIs, with the exception of Zoloft (if I remember correctly).
The most potent inhibitor is paroxetine (paxil), followed by
fluoxetine (prozac). If you are taking an SSRI, you will probably
experience a markedly decreased euphoria when using codeine.
I have done codeine while taking paxil server times, and the high
was variable: ok once or twice, nonexistent at other times. In
addition I got weird side effects for several days (buzzing in
the head/etc). If you're on an SSRI it might be a good idea to
skip the dose for a few days (if you can handle this without
relapsing into depression, or if you don't care). Most SSRIs have
half lifes of only a day or so; the exception is prozac with a
1/2 life of 7 days.
Finally, codeine itself is a cyp2d6 inhibitor. This means that
taking the whole dose as quickly as possible will probably give
you the biggest high. To test this theory I split a 350mg dose
into 3 parts taken about 45 minutes apart. This lead to more side
effects and a poor high. On the other hand, this might have been
due to paxil which I was on at the time. If you've tried this
yourself, let me know what happened.
*GLUTHETHIMIDE
A combination of codeine and gluthethimide (a sleeping agent) has
been used in some places as a heroin substitute. Gluthethimide is
an enzyme-inducer, and it allows the body to convert more than
10% of codeine into morphine. Note that this combination increases
the addiction potential of codeine.
*CAFFEINE
The faq mentions that most of the caffeine in the origical product
will end up in the filtered solution. The pharmacological results of
this combination are not clear. One study found that caffeine reduced
the incidence of acetominophen related liver disorders in mice;
another study found that it increased hepatotoxicity in mice. Who
knows what it does in humans. Since caffeine is a stimulant and
morphine a depressant, its presence will also probably spoil the high
a little. Unfortunately, I haven't found an easy way to get rid of the
stuff. If you have any ideas, mail me.]

Кстати а почему Cедал -М ? Ведь есть же проще и дешевле субстанция Проходол -Форте
там парацетамол, кофеин и кодеина фосфат 8 мг в каждой таблетке

И это все переводить?! Я, конечно, героическая личность, но не до такой степени!
По сути там стандартный кащей. Растворитель - хлороформ, щелочь рекомендуют карбонат натрия или аммиак. Кстати, в более серьезных статьях всякие морфинно-кодеиновые производные щелочат в основном NH4OH. По-моему, стоит прислушаться.
И ничего более. Как они ухитрились усушить продукт до порошка - не понятно, я пока этого сделать не смог.

Седал-М - у нас самый дешевый из всех. Проходол не видел в продаже. Судя по твоим сведениям, там кодеина меньше - 8 г против 10 г (имеется в виду фосфат).

Короче, СВИС получил этот кодеин.
За ночь лепешка разбухла, ее дополнительно раскатали ложкой (кстати, она была уже не липкая, а довольно рассыпчатая, лепешка в смысле Smile). Смесь была отфильтрована через туалетную бумагу, сразу же полился желтый фильтрат (возможно из-за бумаги, хотя вряд ли). Белые кусочки дополнительно промыты хлороформом из бутылки. Фильтрат был вылит на тарелку, и оставлен на балконе на несколько часов. За это время хлороформ полностью выпарился.
Остаток дополнительно просушили пол часа на батарее. Получили желтый НЕ маслянистый порошок. Взвесили… 200-250 мг. Sad
Вывод: если хотите нормальный выход, работать надо как минимум с несколькими граммами вещества.
Теперь сомневаюсь, чтобы СВИС что-то делал с ним в дальнейшем.
