Hi,

here is my situation:

I have a solution with alkaloids (legal of course) in Ca(OH)2.
The alkaloids are present as calciumsalts. The solution is very dilluted, so I want to evaporate it down. Now Im wondering what will happen if I do so. When the water evaporates off, salts will precipitate out. Will this only be the Ca or will the alkaloid-calcium-complex precipitate out too? It would be ok, if it was only the calcium, but if the alkaloids fall out too that would be a problem because I want to precipitate them later from the solution.

Here my questions:

1. Can I evaporate a Ca(OH)2 solution with morphine-calcium-salts in it down to about 50% to precipitate from that without the morphine salts precipitating out while evaporating?

2. When I have the freebase, can I filter that out or do I have to use a np-solvent (I have ether here)

Of course the above is only theoretical.

Thank you.

This is a general idea becuase i dont really have much actual knowledge in this area, so someone should confirm or deny what im about to say before you try it.

Bring pH to ~12 with sodium bicarbonate and add chloroform to extract all the alkaloids, seperate from the rest of the solution and evaporate under a very gentle heat so to reduce possible thermal decomp. I would advise against evap to dryness just leave it in a small volume of solvent.
