Codeine Syrup Extraction

My sister just got surgery on her mouth and they gave her APAP/Codeine for the pain but in the syrup form. I was wondering if there was a way I could extract the Codeine from it?

I ask because there is usually so little, that you would need tons of syrup to get a little. Overhere, the limit is 20mg/30 ml syrup, that means a lot of syrup!

i know that lots of lye and 2 full bottles of hydrocodone gave nothing using toluene. syrup/lyewater was discarded after attempts to let the layer settle for 15 minutes, and 5 days, nothing....isolation of the freebase i couldnt get it, but then again i didn't look shit up, so shit on my head i'm foolish (not stupid) - maybe even wise cuz then itd be acetic anhydride and diacetyl....
