alkyl halides from aq.HBr/HI & alcohols

several alkyl halides were prepared directly from the alcohols
and hydrobromic/hydroiodic acid. a general recipe is given and
the particular peculiarities of each alkyl halide were regarded.

methanol + aq.HBr --> methyl bromide
methanol + aq.HI --> methyl iodide
ethanol + aq.HBr --> ethyl bromide
ethanol + aq.HI --> ethyl iodide
isopropanol + aq.HBr --> isopropyl bromide
isopropanol + aq.HI --> isopropyl iodide
