i recall reading that methyl bisulfate can be formed by mixing methanol and sulfuric acid and letting the mixture stand for a day or so. then this methyl bisulfate can be used to methylate sodium phenoxide at 100c. supposedly methyl bisulfate is less toxic than dimethyl sulfate. can anyone confirm or deny or provide details?
