HI reduction of l-ephedrin

Swim extracted about 7g of l-ephedrin from gas station ephedrim. Swim has never used l-ephedrin in a HI reduction. Is everything the same as with psudo. I heard you had to do the reduction in alcohol instead of water or you get the d variety. Any info would be appreciated.
