Any bees/fishes here?
« on: April 02, 2009, 12:42:31 AM »
Interesting.... :)

I'm not sure if I know anyone here or not.... That said, I was a bee (once upon a time), then a fish (current also zone)... I'm intrigued to know how widely known this site is.... I won't say too much, let's just say I'm intrigued ;)

PS I STRONGLY suggest that you make this site invisible and that you prevent bots putting it on the net... Might I also suggest that you implement email verification? Such sites have been spammed terribly in the past.

Isn't the email verification on? I'll get on that right away, as I thought it was!

When I get more active/posting members, I am going to block all of the google, yahoo, and other spiders from this forum. Then The Vespiary will for the most part appear to just be a site that hosts information on synthesis, and related information-- assuming the members want that, if not I'll do something else.

Now you have me interested, what do you mean by how widely known this site is? There seems to be some store for book binding that might make it seem like this is more popular.

Oh, and very nice to see you join and post! :D

Also.. How come I've never heard of a fish? perhaps this fish is from different language, or is it just something I've never heard of?

I was never an original bee. Fish? I'm not sure I follow. If you mean by swimming over at WD  ;) then yeah, I'm one of them...although it's not my favorite place to swim. I assume your referring to the fish tank below their search function.

That's the one, fucked if I like "dreamer", for some reason I just don't "get" it ??? Bee, Fish, now maybe a Wasp, cool :P

It is a pretty good place to swim ;) SM is good too, but some of the old bees on there are gettin' cranky in their old age ::)

Haha, i hear you. I'm mainly on psychonaut but I like the scene here. Yeah, I think the biggest forums around nowadays are SM and WD.

I figured  out what you meant by fish when I was trying to get to sleep last night! I can't believe I didn't figure it out earlier since it is so obvious now. I post at WDs and SM. I was never a bee since it went down before I got interested in this sort of stuff.

I was a member over at the Hive since like 98-99 but I kind of fell out of things because of personal reasons around 2000.

Welcome Java,
Funny that you said something about synthetikal because I was reading your post on the subject last night over at SciMad about it written as it was going under. Im kind of sad to say I missed the whole synthetikal fiasco. Some it seems gave the place rave reviews where as others not so much...(to say the least). I did get the impression from reading some of his messages in that threed that he liked to spray air freshner and claim that his ass was clean.

No worries this site has nothing to do with synthetikal or anything like that.
Nice to see you java, I've heard many wonderful things about you. :)

I have asked a few people (including Douchermann a couple days ago) about the founder of this site, and they all say that he isn't syn/whateverpseudonymhe'susingnow.

From what I understand the hive started to go down hill late in its life(I personaly was not around for the last 4 or 5 years of its life so I have almost no idea).

Even if it comes back up I and im sure many others feel the damage is done because most internet forums such as the hive have turned into a playground instead of a work lab. Alot of people discussing what could be done and bragging what they have done but little experimental detail and not much effort put into opening a topic and finding new synthesis thru patent and research. Its fun and good for socializing but as far as learning chemistry like I learned from the hive most places are pretty much useless anymore.

Still would be cool to see the hive with its original staff and owners crop back up and attempt to pick up where they left off.

If the hive came back, I think that people would probably join for nostalgia purposes. But other than that, I think that they would stay mostly posting on the currently existing sites.

Also, how can the hive really come back at this point? Strike is staying quiet, and rhodium is no where to be seen. Who's left? I for one would be aggravated if some nobody came along and tried to leach the hive's fame by registering the old domain.

Strike has only been out for a couple months. I doubt he'd hop back in immediately. Did rhodium ever come back? I'm too young for most of this though, I just need a Bee to be my Senior Project Mentor.  :)

Some one over at lambda forums goes by the name of rhodium but I can not tell if its him or what. The style of post is hard to tell since the fellow speaks little. Im sure hes still around but when you think about it why would he have any desire to post under his old username?

These are strange types of forums because famous = infamous and it boggles my mind when I see people that only post on them to show how Kewl they are other then for the love of chemistry. Being famous on these type of forums is like being famous at the methadone clinic, it may be cool in your group of freinds but the rest of the world has another opinion of you.

If the hive comes back, it is going to be extremely important to keep it closed off to registration, and only invite certain people.

Sites like the shroomery, and other places talk about the hive, and how great it is but are riddled with crazy ideas such as this one:
Quote
Aspartame--->phenylalanine--->heated with NaOH--->benzaldehyde--->biosynth with yeast etc(L-pac)--->epherdrine----psuedoepherdrine--->iodine/red phos method--->goodies.

Like.. right? Where to begin with those problems..
k3wls and noobs such as the above would join and post so much at that site it would be ruins before you could even get the word out to all the bees. They would probably feed off each other claiming one foolish idea is great.

I would at least make it so you'd have to write a nice essay about why they should be a bee, this would probably help filter out a lot of the problems.

I don't know who it was, but I thought I heard someone say they had been talking to rhodium. They, or I could be totally mistaken however.
