Has anyone has luck with a material called campa chem? Its a formaline mixture but I dont know what the concentration is or if there is other contamination.

I bought a decent amount for fairly cheap of the paraformaldehyde. It is stained blue, but with a lot of methanol, the blue dye for the most part can be washed out. I have never bought the liquid mixture however. I think it would also likley be blue, and just harder to clean.

Distillation should handle that no? I didn't see the para there or I would have chose that over a dilute solution anyday and just degraded it prior to use when I needed it.

yeah, it is found in a box, and then comes in nice little packets so you don't have to open an entire lot of it.
I think either base or acid help depolymerize the paraformaldehyde, though I'm not sure.
I've ever really used it much, and would probably only use it for hexamine right now anyways.

Yeh its just a few drops of sulfuric and a gental heat to recover the aldehyde. Formaline can be used for MeNH3 synthesis right?

Yes it does, I am not sure how though, i think hexamine works better with higher yields and so i think it is advised to turn it into hexamine first and then add HCl.

*mod edit -- not sources.. sorry*
all your formaldehyde needs. Blue dye not included. actually they have alot of niffty stuff.
mercury, iodine.....

Unless you use reduced pressure. If you have tons of formaldehyde, and tons of ammonium chloride, just use that directly with slight reduced pressure. No need to waste time (and product) converting to hexamine. Plus, a 55 gallon drum of 37% formaldehyde looks a whole lot better than a 25 kilo sack of hexamine.

I think this is the general consensus, if you have access to 37% formaldehyde then it is the way to go.

There is an endless supply of cheap %37 formaldehyde on Ebay. Shipping is cheap too....... However I would personally recommend not to pour the shit all over your carpet.

I strongly advice everyone to never buy from ebay. I know for a fact that they turn over everything on you if someone asks, no court order necessary

Ebay has been known to give up information not even asked for if the purchase seemed in question. They are well known to be the side arm of the DEA so due caution should be used whenever purchases are made thru them.

Campa-Chem, although it's dirty as hell. Some of the nasty shit (most of the dye, some of the fragrance) can be removed by washing it with methanol.
I've heard that there's a product called "mildewcyde" which is supposed to be pretty good, although I've never seen it.

Half of these joints have been taken over by the bigger bizzos and they stock shit. Small bussiness this end is a history lesson. Thanks, and will lookout for said saids.

I know at wal-mart they sell these little packet things of paraformaldehyde, supposedly tech grade for the most part(perhaps dyed. i didn't really look).
Since paraformaldehyde is a polymer of formaldehyde and a solid at that, simply dry distill(pyrolysis) to break the chain down and bubble the resulting fumes in a polar solvent until the solution is saturated.

Thank you Alchemist but if I wanted to order these chemicals online then sourcing them would not be a problem. My goal in life is to steer clear of any and all paper trails. Even though im not doing anything illegle I prefer to not allow a view into my little world what so ever. That includes buying or making all materials I want as discretely as possible.
I have found a nice big bottle of formaline used to disinfect septics for campers. Its got a blue dye in it but if one needed to purify it im sure acid catalysed dimmerization to precipitate para formaldahyde then decomposition would clean that dye right out in a jiffy.
