Wanted References February 2013
« on: February 09, 2013, 04:52:26 PM »
Steps to make the people who fetch articles for you happy:

1) UTFSE for your article here and at other boards. You'd be surprised at the myriad articles that we have already fetched. If you find it somewhere else, and it's important for the community, start a thread about it or post it in the "Articles of Interest" thread.

2) Make sure that the article is already in digital format. If it isn't, include that fact with your request.

3) Color your requests blue, and provide the following required information so that we can use our limited time wisely retrieving your article instead of searching for the necessary information. Your article request probably won't be filled if you don't include a DOI. You can simply fill in the form below.

Code: [Select]
Authors
Article Title
Journal Title Year, Volume(Issue):Page range
DOI:____
PMID:____

Abstract
If you can find the abstract, paste it here.

An Example using a previously fetched article (not the greatest because Synlett uses the year as its volume number, but you get the point):

Li-Xiong Shao, Min Shi
N-Bromosuccinimide and Lithium Bromide: An Efficient Combination for the Dibromination of Carbon-Carbon Unsaturated Bonds
Synlett 2006, 2006(:1269-1271
DOI: 10.1055/s-2006-941558
PMID: None

Abstract
Compounds possessing unsaturated bonds such as alkenes, alkynes, allenes, and methylenecyclopropanes (MCPs) can be dibrominated within minutes by NBS and lithium bromide in THF at room temperature in good to excellent yields under mild conditions.

Oxidations of organic compounds by cobaltic salts. Part XII. Oxidations of unsaturated acids
P. Smith and William A. Waters
Journal of the Chemical Society B: Physical Organic
J. Chem. Soc. B, 1969, 462-467

DOI: 10.1039/J29690000462

Oxidations of unsaturated acid by cobalt(III) perchlorate show the normal kinetic behaviour in being first order with respect to both cobalt(III) and the organic substrate but inversely dependent on the acidity of the solution. Product studies, however, show that two reactions occur concurrently: (i) oxidation via decarboxylation leading to the production of and aldehyde or ketone, e.g. PhCH:CH·CO2H [graphic omitted] PhCH:CH· [graphic omitted] PhCH:CH·OH [graphic omitted] PhCH2·CHO and (ii) direct attack on the double bond, i.e. C[double bond, length half m-dash]C + Co3+??–[graphic omitted] + [graphic omitted], which then leads rapidly to double-bond fission, but can in part (e.g. with 2,3-diphenylacrylic acid) involve an intramolecular rearrangement. The product studies have been carried out quantitatively with cinnamic acid, eight of its analogues, and with their aldehydic degradation products by using the small-scale technique previously developed for this work. The approximate rate constants for these oxidations are also listed.

Highly Potent Modulation of GABAA Receptors by Valerenic Acid Derivatives

Sascha Kopp Dipl.-Chem.1,

Hanns Möhler Prof.?Dr.1,
Karl-Heinz Altmann Prof.?Dr.1

Article first published online: 16 MAR 2010

Quote:

Thumbnail image of graphical abstract Traditional medicine to potent drug leads: Valerenic acid (1) is a major constituent of common valerian and potentiates the effect of ?-aminobutyric acid on GABAA receptors. Through systematic modification of the carboxyl group of 1 we have discovered a noncarboxylate-containing analogue, tetrazole 10, which exceeds the modulatory activity of 1 at GABAA receptors by one order of magnitude.

Assyl's German isn't so good anymore, so if anyone would be able to provide a translation as well (procedure and results, specifically), it would be helpful. Or at least verify that Assyl has interpreted it properly.

Thanks!

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology

DOI: 10.1080/01932691003656938

Abstract: (excerpt) This spectroscopic study presents the kinetics and degradation pathways of oxidation of acetaminophen by permanganate in neutral medium. The variables affecting the reactions were carefully investigated and the conditions were optimized. The higher degradation rate was observed with increase in acetaminophen concentration in the range of 0.4 × 10?3 to 9.7 × 10?3 min?1. The retention time and UV-visible absorption spectrum of the product were found to be identical to those of p-benzoquinone.

Dihalocarbene insertions into carbon-hydrogen bonds of hydrocarbons and ethers
S Goh, K Chan, T Kam and H Chong
Australian Journal of Chemistry 28(2) 381 - 384
DOI: 10.1071/CH9750381
PMID: none

Abstract:
Fair to moderate yields of insertion products of dichloro- and dibromo- carbenes can be achieved from aqueous reaction mixtures using the phase transfer method. Insertions are very selective; benzylic, tertiary C-H bonds of hydrocarbons and ?-C-H bonds of ethers are particularly reactive. The convenience of this method makes it potentially attractive for certain synthetic applications.
