I am saying for adsense the site would be converted to HTML, on a different site and be indexed. Also, generally you can get around $1 to $5 per thousand views.
Daily we get about a thousand page views and only members can see it, and it hasn't been promoted and is not indexed.

Harm reduction focus would just make a site statement to the effect of believing that having good information on synthesis, etc makes it safer for everyone.
A subtitle to each thread could added to state how knowing such information would possibly help reduce harm to a certain class of individuals. I.e trip reports, proper synthesis, etc all easily relate since it can help people understand what to expect and to help prevent and  keep dirty or improperly made drugs from the street.

And an additional sub forum would be added to discuss the harms of drugs, drug law, and how to reduce them. Otherwise everything else would remain the same.

Not that my opinion really matterz, but I am totally down with WizX's proposal.  If it is a vote, then count me in for WizX!

.....why is it so hard to do the right thing, rather than turning the forum into something less than what it is....so what's holding you back from handing over the forum.....at this point you are respected for starting the forum...don't let that respect turn to be despised as Hellman was for his betrayal of trust, much like V16, and now forgotten Hive.....java

I think Vesp in this thread has just been unclear rather than having malicious intentions. From what I can see he has absolutely no plans of putting Google ads on this site. He is just proposing that he would create a static html copy of this site for anyone to download and mirror. I think he want's to host one copy of that static site with google ad's to derive some sort of profit from himself, but I hope he would not be doing this with the original domain name. This would be similar to many of the Hive and Rhodium archive mirrors that are around.

I'd be happy to help with site maintenance or development in any way I can. People are discussing free hosting options here, that is totally unnecessary. I would be happy to host this site for the potential admins such as Wizard X etc. I could easily set up a tor hidden service for an user's who would like that and also disable any logging of user requests and sign in's etc.

There is a large amount of data, work and experience here in this community and it would be a shame for it to go the way of the Hive. I think a static copy of the site and all the corresponding attachments/references should be released as a torrent before any transition period to ensure the continued availability of everything the community has worked to create.

Yes, my sentiments exactly!! Vesp's HTML version IS HIS OWN ENTITY, and hosted wherever as suggested by "free hosting"?

Thank you Polonium for your hosting offer, but we have it covered. The forum, WILL continue as stated http://127.0.0.1/talk/index.php/topic,3694.msg36790.html#msg36790

Maybe contact Vesp via PM, and see if he needs assistance with the HTML version??

Ok so, How do we want to go about transferring the power to Wixard X?
I'll just give him admin powers and server access, yeah?

The HTML archive will/should be made and released to every member here.
Just.. you know, dibs on the inevitable of someone putting ads on it. :P

We'll need to do it and toss it into a torrent as well, and maybe other good places to ensure content survival... give it a date and then try to release a yearly HTML version of the site..

Yes, once your HTML version is complete and ready to go? I will need a good day and will try and sync with Cheshire Cat as time permits? Please PM me the final date when your hosting finishes?

The DNS may not be necessary IF...

(1)  Vespiary will be accessed completely by TOR hidden services, and thus a TOR URL only.
(2) Or maybe like this? https://the-collective.ws/Vespiary/

Yes, periodic updates can be made??

........another Hellman in the making.....the demise of Synthetika and now here....why not just make the data base available and sink the forum rather than go out and ruin it like many have done in order to have control.......java

My thoughts entirely, that is the trouble, what next selling syntheses? Movies of illegal activities? Vesp, I appreciate that you are taking the time and effort to make a place for some of the swarm, can you not see the quality of the membership you do have? Does that mean nothing? You have some seriously switched on, old-bees here who call this place home.... Ah fuck it.

Wiz, if you can take it on, the swarm needs a stable home, maybe even a hidden home to stop the shit that has started with people selling synths (crap ones at that). Just please don't do a zones type scenario, or even a hellman one, there has been an awful lot of information found and lost due to instability and it shits me, just when we hit critical mass everything goes to crap. We've got scripts, fucking trojans, everything coming at us now. All we need is our names and IP's on fucking CNN (or worse, wikileaks).

Is it possible to have a HTTPS front door and a tor-back door for serious discussion and people we know?

"If the admin, moderators, & members here vote me to host the forum - I will do so" ..........You have my vote of confidence and my continuous support, lets have some order and continuity....java

Java, between you and me, how many papers have we lost over the last decade? Significantly more than are in any version of the Rhodium pdf's I've ever encountered would be my call. If there is going to be a mirror site, there needs to be a searchable index of papers that have been uploaded, so they don't have to be found and uploaded all over again. The Hive, Synthetikal, Wetdreams, etc. all of that knowledge wasted.

An archive of all files would be uploaded onto the pirate bay.

The pirate bay would be a bad solution IMHO, it will be taken down sooner or later. I would suggest a library of papers be made on a hidden server, in a way that can be categorised, so we can find them and retrieve them when people are looking for them in future. That avoids the hassle with the publishers and allows for things to be kept online in a semi-accessible location.

@No1uno - what do you think has been stopping everyone from doing that? You've talked about it forever yet it's never happened -- not even at the wetdream collective or whatever.

Money? Talent? Incentive?

Sometimes its important to negotiate with reality and just realize that making a torrent of the sites files/folders, discussion and other data is a great option.
It's not the perfect ideal option, but it's pretty good and ensures copies will be accessible to everyone in a decentralized way.

Precisely, Hellman will never be forgiven for Synthetikal or the other site (I forgot the name) he started. I note he is still trying to sell glass online, despite being seriously hot.

Money and time, I had a pretty good indexed file system up at 4shared for a while there, but the problem was trying to set it up on the main web, the publisher's get a little antsy about their product being available freely and I don't want to end up in Court like the bloke who had the other site. If it were hidden, properly, and accessible only to those who needed to know, then it would be possible. I'm more than happy to put in some of the work, but only if it is going to be used responsibly and properly. An indexing system takes a shitload of work, it can be undone rapidly by lazy fuckers.

I am going to do the correct thing. I have decided to give the forum to someone I believe will take much better care of it than I am, and is far more competent in programming, chemistry, and nearly all things else when related to forum-ing.
However, I've decided not to give it over to Wizard X, or any of "The Collective" people.

This person who will get access to it is an old time, well respected member of the forum but has been on a bit of hiatus just because life get's busy with work, schooling, etc.  However, he said he would like to do it, and is ready to do it. Since I had always intended to hand the forum over to him, I am going to do just that. :)

I know him much better than I do the moderators, and most others on this site and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that with him being an the site care taker we will soon so The Vespiary better than it ever has been. Many people will be extremely pleased within the next few months.

No doubt in my mind this is the best choice I could possibly make involving this forum.

Ok, I can live with that

Is it possible to get a static backup of the site as it exists now - including the pdf-index?

I've seen sites change hands before, and shit always goes missing, due to lack of preparation for the most part, not bagging anyone, but an awful lot of stuff has been lost over more than a decade now.

Let's not turn this into a Wareami/Dwarfer clusterfuck. I'm not interested in the politics, I'm only interested in what is best for the swarm. After all, it is the old members of the swarm who have probably built this into something you can raise revenue from, let's not forget that it is their collective knowledge, wisdom and experience that you intend to market.
