I would neither recommend Germany nor Austria as location. I donīt know about the legal situation in the UK though.
An ADSL connection as available in most parts of europe does not provide fast enough upload to run a board this large. A cable connection might when not shared with other users (as usual). 10Mbit lines are available in certain countries now (Sweden) and ADSL with upload up to 3Mbit is available in selected regions of France and Germany. But if it is wise to place the server at somebodies home or office is another question. After all experiences made in the past I would say no.
Hey Synthetika! I didnīt bitch. When you reread my posts here you may find that I actually defended this board and just asked for two improvements which seem to be reasonable to me. I also didnīt call out danger and paranoia, but just stated that the situation as is is ok by now but it might be a good idea to chage it in the future.
Thats called constructive critics and not bitching - isnīt it?

1mbit would probably be more than enough to run this forum (but might not make it possible to host large files etc). There is of course the security issue too, if it's wise or not probably depends on who has the server. If a reliable person can be found (which is the hardest part) with good computer knowledge I would say that the security issue would not be a problem as long the admin is not practicing clandestine chemistry or other illegal activitys. Encryption would stop any authority/police to get hold of any information. I don't know if it from a security point is more safe to put the server in a server hall where the company staff have root access to it and can read everything that's stored on the harddrive.
I don't know nothing about the legal situation/freedom of speech in any country though, but I guess most european countries are better then the united states. Any way, it's a rather tricky problem to solve. |

If you point your browser to http://www.the-hive.ws/, you'll notice something is going on. I get the mesage:"Under Construction
The domain (WWW.THE-HIVE.WS) is currently under construction". Hope it will be online soon.

Got an update regarding the actual situation with the-hive.
They have purchased a server and an ISP is also arranged. The software is currently being investigated and updated.
The "only" thing missing is Rhodiums keen sense of über perfection, which must be satisfied before anything is seen online...
So, it's only a matter of time.
Regards
