Breaking Bad
« on: May 20, 2011, 03:57:50 PM »

Ok this tv show is awesomely done, Brian Cranston is flawless the whole thing is awesome.

But for us, it is a little laughable.. you can tell it was written by non chemists put it that way..

Id like to quote off my head a few things like "thats my formula!".. Its P2P COOK as they call it.. its a fucking amalgum reduction on p2p, woopey lol

they call him a 'master' and this guy who has a masters in crystology and full on chem degree says "teach me"... its like well fag if you cant run an amalgum that get the fuck outta here

i really loved watching this. i watched the whole series in a week!

I HATE that jesse kid, does anyone else want to kill him the whole time!!?? id have killed him in the beginning when he was a high school student smartass but hey, thats me

haha I love that show with all my heart...

I always thought that if it were realistic Walter would be making acid in that superlab...

I could totally see it - the next season he runs a set of 1000 gallon ergot bioreactors in that lab under the laundry.. Jesse falls in one and to prevent the batch being skunked walter seals it shut.

Anybody else notice the paper shredders and coffee grinders?

Coincidence, or did somebody do their homework?

Ya, its pretty well researched as far as I can see! For example, when they get stuck in the desert they made a battery with the Mg(II)O which they had, which is plausible to have on hand! Its the small things that make it so good. Even for the explosions with the tortoise, they have it looking realistic and not a stereotypical big fireball. It really is a fantastic program. I watched all of it in about a week too!

Edit: oops meant to say Hg2O, silly me!

Sure it wasn't MnO2? similar sounding name, more plausible battery contents.

No, they improvised a couple voltic cell of voltic cells using buckets and copper wire. I can't remember for definite, but I'm pretty sure they had a mercury salt anyways!

Thanks Hexagon, I remember those bees on the drums now too. I remember that being good for a laugh when I saw it, even though I couldn't tell the people I was watching it with why.

I was so grossed out the first episodes when that torso go gprrlshh! through the bathtub onto the floor in front of them hahaha

awesome show though.. the fact meth is nowhere near as hard as they make it out to be doesnt matter, people arnt supposed to know how its done.. and yeah it is well researched like he said how did you reduce it, platinum dioxide didnt you? im like ooohh didnt even know that one

Vesp, mercury fulminate isn't THAT unstable. Fulminating mercury on the other hand, most probably is. They use mercury fulminate in blasting caps, but those 'fulminating' compounds, are only really of use in novelties like those throw-down snaps you give kids to play with that contain a tiny amount of fulminating silver.

Hg fulminate though, is as I say, used in blasting caps and cartridge primers, it is indeed a quite sensitive primary HE, and not something to fuck about carelessly with, but it isn't anywhere close to being so sensitive you can't so much as obtain and store a crystalline product, it isn't like say, the nitrogen trihalides (trifluoride excepted), fulminating silver (different entirely from silver fulminate), liquified diazomethane, britney spears, or any other such hideously unstable nasty things.

Ey? tim mcveigh used nitromethane-sensitized ammonium nitrate to send all those government filth to meet the god the yanks so often wank off over.

Not sure what he used to set it off though, probably something pretty powerful. ANFO needs a powerful secondary HE booster as well as a blasting cap, not sure about ANNM though.

Not sure if she would know the technical details, but my girl used to be his penpal, when he was in jail.

Mercury fulminate crystal... Not gonna be in a bag and look like meth is it is crushed/the size of a a giant crystal.....

Also thanks for the picture - thats fun :)

Crushed mercury fulminate crystals would be a fucking BLAST (pun intended). I'd personally prefer to play with acetylides, they are more forgiving.

What do you mean 'abort. abort'

True she started off as sort of, kinda my stalker. But truly, we connect well, she is interested in how people tick, she wasn't dating the guy or anything. She is a truly special lady, and honorable as they come. The likes of whom I have never known, and short her she herself, will never know again (nor would I be able to, if ever she decided no longer to allow myself to call me her own.

Actually, as soon as possible, she is the woman I want to marry, and spend the rest of my life with.
