Modest Mouse is good stuff.

Pink Floyd I think takes the cake for the most epic lyrics and song meanings...
Time, and Wish you were here, etc seem to have so much meaning

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56E8yYgLNHE - Listening to this right now.

I'm a fan of folk, folkpunk, house, classic rock, some specific rappers (old and even new), and other various electronic stuff.

I myself am a big classic rock fan;

Led zepplin, David Bowie, Billy Idol, Billy joel, pink floyd, some AC/DC (once you've heard 5 of their songs, you've heard them all), The Scorpions (favorite driving music), Styx, Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Bare naked ladies, some aerosmith, CCR, ZZ top, BTO, Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Foreigner, The Cars, ELO, etc.  The list is enormous hahaha.

You could also see me listening to lots of new(ish) stuff, like modest mouse, and Dope.  And once in a while, I'll catch myself listening to some barry manilow bahahaha.  Also, lots of techno.

To be honest, there are very few songs, or music genres that I oppose.  Not a fan of country, but I wouldn't call it suffering if I had to listen to it.  I hate screamer rock, or whatever, like Dimmu borgir, and most system of a down songs I hate.  Oh, I also hate REO speedwagon. hahahaha

I think it would be cool to have this song; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzlv8AX7sD8 played to an animation showing wasps, bee's and fish, etc flying around helping each other, and basically the story of the online drug forum communities... or something like that.. I dunno

Lately I've really been enjoying tom petty.
This one that I've got stuck in my mind for a while. I think it kind of reminds me of Douchermann, we were good friends.

neutral milk hotel yank my soul out of my body, i love the half-raspy voice and the dreamy imagery of the lyrics....the passion of the singing, incredible...

I also like post-rock/screamo .......piebald, saetia, off minor, shai hulud, cave in,

it's either that or glitch core!!mwahahaha, venetian snares?? anybody??

Quote
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
You fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine
Staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
You missed the starting gun

And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter
Never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to nought
Or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone
The song is over
Thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
When I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells

This song is about essentially my biggest fear, which is why I like it so much more than any other song, I guess it serves as a warning? It is essentially telling a story about how he was young, and had all these dreams -- but he had time, so he just never got on them, than things started to happen, you know, maybe he got married, got a job, and had to work hard to keep everything going, always putting his real goals and dreams off to the side. Than he realized one day that it was to late, and that no matter how hard to you try, you'll never reach the goals and dreams which you've set for yourself so long ago...

It seems most people, and most people in my family especially have "plans that either come to naught
Or half a page of scribbled lines" - they never reach their goals, they never try hard enough, they never even start, or have the time.
