I have a very odd problem...

I have a dog, which is very sick. The vet will not put the dog to sleep.

I was thinking that an injection of heroin followed by 300mg of NaCN would do the job just as well. My questions are: is this method viable? how much heroin is needed to knock a dog out (OD)?

perhaps get a second opinion, if youve done this, then I wouldn't have a fucking clue how much of this or that would work.. I dare say it pends on the quality of the H, for instance, most places I here is around 10-20% street.. I think you could find via toxicology info data, and work out the weight of the sick dog, to get a gauge..Personally, Id get a qualified vet to do it, and if hes old and sick as stated, then this shouldn't be a drama.. I have heard of dogs getting put down, due to the owners getting sick, and not able to look after, I cant see the problem with a vet being able to do it.. see my interest in chem is theoretical ie learning the reactions only, and sometimes this is not the case in REAL world effects...find another vet

Or give it a nice juicy stake, and then just shoot it.

it won't know what hit it, and it will die happy.

yeah, stake and surprise methodology seems somewhat sound.

post edit,, OH- at the 6th position, of an amphetermine  molecule, and left as is, is particulary toxic, or is that not so..

I can't bare to think of an animal being killed like that. Not now.

Let him live his life. Let him do as he wishes. He will die, and when he does, mourn it. A dog is a dog. But murder is still murder.

I just deleted some personal view on this thing..No it aint murder, its caring, and in that context, should happen fullstop.

It just is... I could do it, I'm sure many of us can. But its just thinking about it that kills me on the inside.

Do what you want. He is yours.

This is not something to be considered "convenient". The two vets around are unwilling to put anything without a critically fatal ailment to sleep. This dog is completely deaf, has skin so dry he bleeds, can't move very well, and always appears absolutely miserable. I am trying to put him out of his misery because I would want someone to do that to me if I were in his position.

I'm just looking for the most effective painless way. I was imagining that passing out from an opiate, followed by a dose of something nasty would a good way. I would rather a vet do this, and I'll keep looking for one, but so far the options look grim. I've never killed a mammal before, much less a loved pet, and I'm not looking forward to this. But again, hopefully I'll find a vet and this won't be an issue.

Can lithium and ammonia take off the OH groups on Aromatic rings? Swims seen em take off OH groups not on the rings part. And No, not planned for use with phenylephrine nor synephrine just need a Senior Project. And a mentor btw. Hehehe. If you got good ideas for one please post.

I don't believe it can, I'm quite sure it would just reduce the ring.  However, distilling the compound with dry zinc dust will give the desired aromatic.  Unfortunately, it's low yeilding

Another Question that includes Lithium. Lithium aluminum hydride is to strong to reduce L-PAC to (pseudo)ephedrine right? Or anything useful?
