Does anyone know of any decent psychoactive drugs that use common essential oils  such as camphor, pinene, cineole, thujone, Rosmarinic acid, Nepetalactone, etc as one of the precursors?

@no1uno - any luck or advancement with the MCPA idea? It sounds very interesting and it would be great to see progress towards is use for the hobby.

The only real advance is cited over @SM, the use of Fremy's Radical to oxidise the 4-chloro-2-methylphenol to the 2-methylbenzoquinone. I'm still looking to see if there is any possibility of using alcoholysis of that chlorine to give the 4-methoxy-2-methylphenol...

They have this new drugs that is gaining popularity. Its called serenity and they sell it in head shops and I dont wanna be racial but you know those seedy gas stations. It looks like nugs of hydro ponic and has the same effect. its legal under the guise of herbal incense. Do you think they lace is it with JWH 13?

@drone1240 Almost undoubtedly it is laced in one of the JWH family

@Vesp : Sure there are some, according to strike brown camphor contains safrole, in high percentages. Rose oil contains (an expensive) source of phenethanol.

There are all sorts of allyl/propenylbenzenes in the likes of calamus oil (TMA series, several varieties), parsley (apiol), dill oil, etc, there are quite a lot out there.

Even clove oil if you get desperate enough for starting precursors.

Yeah, any more so exotic ones though? Totally forgot about calamus oil -- good point... something from a terpene would be neat - something like a good drug that affects GABA receptors but is easily derived from something like thujone?

@Vesp, the only real advance is that Fremy's radical should be capable of converting the 4-chloro-2-methylphenol to the wanted 2-methylbenzoquinone. Difficulty is that Fremy's radical is not exactly OTC and has a nasty habit of exploding. I'm still looking for more OTC routes.

What are some presumptive test to insure that HgCl2 is pure?

A solution of 5 grams of mercuric chloride in 100 ml of water and 5 ml of hydrochloric acid (1.124 specific gravity) is treated with hydrogen sulfide until all the mercury is precipitated; the clear filtrate when evaporated to dryness on the water bath should no give a weighable residue. The precipitate can be agitated with 5 ml of aqueous ammonia and 45 ml of water; then filtered and if arsenic is present the color will be yellow when acidified with hydrochloric acid.

Anyways, Do you think that the reaction between Tropinone and Propionic chloride will give 2-Propanoyl-3-Tropinone ?

Would any one have a chart of the decomposition rate of ammonia production from the decomposition of urea at various temperatures?

If one can be found, it would be greatly appreciated! :D

Here is one the bothered me for a while...

When MDP-2-P rearranges back to olefin,is that olefin mainly safrole,iso-safrole,mixture of these or some intermediate product?!

What would you get if you use benzo wacker on the iso-safrole and vice versa, peracid method with safrole!?

And other one totally unrelated:
What would happen if someone ingested few ml phenolphthalein solution, beside explosive diarrhea.... ;D

depending on the amount, possibly cancer. phenolphthalein has been used as a laxative in the past, but someone (i dont know who makes the claims or tests them) says it is a carcinogen...

and besides that, i dunno. i bet it does cause some hellacious bowel cramping when used as a laxative...

i dont have a chart per say, but how bout a little work for ya? if you read these papers, you can extrapolate the reaction rate at various temperatures...

the basics...
AMMONIA AND UREA PRODUCTION
hXXp://nzic.org.nz/ChemProcesses/production/1A.pdf

this page has their scheme to produce nh3 from urea... along with how they did it start to finish. you will see the chart in there for the rates of nh3 production at various temps.
U2A™ Urea-to-Ammonia “State of the Technology” hXXp://www.ecctech.com/pdfs/2001%20MEGA%20u2a.pdf

i tell you what, you are smarter than i am and youll know what your reading without my lame ass descriptions.

Urea and Urea Nitrate Decomposition Pathways: A Quantum Chemistry Study
hXXp://www.chem.missouri.edu/Thompson/research/Tokmakov-Alavi-Thompson_JPCA_revised.pdf

DECOMPOSITION AND OXIDATION OF A UREA-WATER SOLUTION AS USED IN SELECTIVE NON-CATALYTIC REMOVAL (SNCR) PROCESSES
hXXp://nzic.org.nz/ChemProcesses/production/1A.pdf

UREA AND DERIVATES DECOMP BY SIMULTANEOUS TG/DTA/MS
hXXp://www.wdc-jp.biz/mssj/search/pdf/199804/ms460299.pdf

EXPERIMENTAL AND COMPUTATIONAL STUDY OF THE
THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF URONIUM NITRATE (UREA NITRATE)
hXXp://www.intdetsymp.org/detsymp2002/PaperSubmit/FinalManuscript/pdf/Hiyoshi-30.pdf

probably overkill, but i couldnt find a simple chart like you asked... but there is enough data to see that your gonna need a hot ass stove without a catalyst.

I got some Idea I just needed to share with you guys...
When washing post-amalgation product to get rid of all the Hg,is it good idea to wash extracts with standard EDTA or Ca-EDTA solution once!?
If there is no some kind of side reaction or incompatibility, this seems to be 100% sure method to get rid of all the toxic Hg and even trace amounts of Al
if you are super keen on purity.

Does anyone know what piperonal looks like?  I was curious how much was in a bottle of artifical vanilla I got at the mexican store so i did a distillation to remove as much of the water and alcohol as I could.  I wound up with a thick syrup and a bunch of gel like stuff on the inside of the flask that doesn't dissolve when I put alcohol in it.  I've USFSE but all I've found are pictues of white powder.

If you perform the experiment again, you should first do an organic extraction, then distill at reduced pressure. Your current goo is just that .. goo.

Just using a single brine wash in slight excess of your rxn volume will be more than enough to pull all the Hg salt into it. HgCl2 for example is so soluble in water that it owes its toxicity to it. EDTA or CaEDTA is too expensive when all you need is some table salt.

Thanks, I'll try hexane.  At least my experiments smell good - last week was cinnamon by steam distillation.   :)

I hate asking such a mediocre question, but I was 100% sure I saw a toluene to benzene synthesis using a hydroxide. Now I can't find it anywhere. I remember it distinctly on sciencemadness using sodium hydroxide. Am I go crazy?
